Very cool and gives me the impression of lonliness and learning something at the same time?

I think.... there should be a little gray alien in place of the human. THAT would be insanely DD worthy.

I like the concept of this :] Great work! The shadows are so prominent, giving an ethereal effect. Keep it up <3

It doesn't matter whether this is DD-worthy or not, this is a great concept, and one of the main reasons I'm on dA is to be inspired, no matter how "professional" or polished it looks. If you're only after professionalism, try an art gallery.
Just a question - is there a reason why some parts are blurred? Again, great concept!

Thank youu for the kind comment!!
As for an answer to your question: Gonzale is right.. it was really windy that night.. i didnt actually want the trees to be blurred it just came out that way.

Gonzale In reply to Haldered [2009-07-13 13:53:22 +0000 UTC]
Art galleries aren't all after professionnalism. They're after "different" images
the reason of the blur : "Shutter Speed: 8/5 second"
there was probably some wind in the trees, and the slow shutter speed shows the movement of the leaves.

Haldered In reply to Gonzale [2009-07-13 14:02:24 +0000 UTC]
Good point about art galleries, but you know what I mean...
Yeah, it's probably the movement in the trees, but it looks different, like a Photoshop blur or raindrops on the lens...but you're probably right...

I don't think it's bad, but It's not worthy of a DD.

I am in complete agreement with you.
Kind of like that retarded DD of a band-aid tattoo by :devzombiethc: ([link] ).
A band-aid tattoo. deviantART is the internet hell for art nowadays. :/

The artist can't help the fact that they got a DD, and it's rude as hell to tell them that. How would you feel if your art got a feature like this and people came to you and said "YOUR ART ISN'T WORTHY"?
π: 0 β©: 1
MusaRed In reply to CittensCollar [2009-07-13 19:13:46 +0000 UTC]
I wouldn't care if someone said that to me. It's the ARTIST'S opinion that truly counts no one else's. As artists we shouldn't draw/write/whatever for anyone, but ourselves. Only our own art should be worthy to us.

I do think it's bad, shadows are awful, and blown highlights on the bottom pavement are cringe worthy; an elementary mistake.
Yes yes, I know photographs arenβt all about the technicalities, but simple stuff should be seen and sorted, clearly not a lot of time has gone into this photo...
π: 0 β©: 2
blueblueelectricblue In reply to will-jum [2009-07-13 17:55:32 +0000 UTC]
This is my first year at photography.. so im rusty with a lot of the technicalities. This was also my first time renting a light, but the bright highlights are meant to be that way.. i was working with recreating film noir before this, so the idea was to create stark highlights and shadows.
And i spent two months on this project.
I appreciate criticism but saying things like 'cringe worthy' just isn't necessary. Please waste your insults somewhere else. =]

well, tbh, you would say there meant to be like that, but heh.
I didnt mean to insult you, i just get annoyed and some of the gm's, thats all.

CittensCollar In reply to will-jum [2009-07-13 19:04:34 +0000 UTC]
Annoyed with the GMs so you go to an artist who had NO choice in the fact that their art got featured and insult them?
π: 0 β©: 1
Gonzale In reply to will-jum [2009-07-13 16:48:00 +0000 UTC]
i think the "elementary mistakes" you mention were done on purpose by the photographer

Give me one good reason why the blown out highlights work?
π: 0 β©: 1
Gonzale In reply to will-jum [2009-07-13 17:22:35 +0000 UTC]
because it creates a different image. Something we're not used to see.

Something that degrades photography, making it less specialist?
π: 0 β©: 3
Gonzale In reply to will-jum [2009-07-13 19:09:40 +0000 UTC]
you should check some of the last comments... they pretty much sum up what i feel when i see this photograph.
photography isn't about do's and don'ts, what you call "degrading" i call "experiment", and i like people who experiment and try to work and do things that aren't eye-candyish evident nice pictures.
just like in everything else in life : music, i like experimental music (i also like more mainstream stuff, because who can resist to ear candy (as much as eyecandy)) but i think that the people who do things that challenge your mind and create an image, a sound that you haven't seen before, is something people should validate, because novelty is rarer and rarer as decades go by.

So the dd,is a reflection of yourself?.
I don't see why an "experiment" desevers a dd, unless ofc, the "experiment" is a success.
I don't view this as an orignal image, like you say it is.

Gonzale In reply to will-jum [2009-07-13 21:33:28 +0000 UTC]
of course it's a reflection of my taste, i feature things that speak to me
i see this experiment as a success, as well.

I just don't see why dd's should be a reflection of one persons taste?
Maybe they are now, but i think this is something that needs to change (read my other response!)

as much as art galleries are a reflection of the gallery director's taste.. makes perfect sense to me.
$spyed trusted me to have valid taste somehow...

come on man. I understand your views and all that, but don't spout your shit on this persons page. They didn't up and ask for a DD. Someone saw it, thought it was nice and gave it the DD. And here you are sayin all this hurtful shit. Stuff like this is what can make someone give up and quit art. Crits are welcome, but completely bashing the artist is uncalled for. I'm SURE theres many more experienced photographers than you that could easily tear apart your work, were you to get a DD. Would that feel good to u?
