I got a lot of help on this one from the good people at ConceptArt.org. So anything good in it is due to them
Coloring (on the octopus, anyway) was inspired by Klimt.

It's soothing....and green. The contrast between the octopus and the water is very noticeable (and surprisingly, the bright colors don't look tacky at all!)

You did a lovely job on the coloring, the style of it gives it it's own special feel to the picture. The colors you used complement each other very well, the orange red coloration against the blue greens of the background cause the focal point to stick out well in the picture. The expression of the face seems rather calm, while the movements of the hands look as though they where once moving around but slowly stopped, that gives it a very interesting appearance to the picture since it's such a surreal type image. The hand to the left appears rather awkward, the fingers look a little stressed, while it also looks as though it is missing a finger.
You did a very good job though sweetie, keep it up!

Compositionally though, it's a bit heavy on the bottom. You could offset that by adding a stroke of slightly darker blue in the upper left corner or maybe more white lines. (Hope you don't mind the critique
