I got a lot of help on this one from the good people at ConceptArt.org. So anything good in it is due to them
Coloring (on the octopus, anyway) was inspired by Klimt.

The octopus reminds me of that Kandinsky painting of all the colorful circles. (one of my favorites)

I was about to comment and say it reminded me of Klimt, but then I read the description ^^ It's gorgeous. I love the really vibrant colors (and the not so vibrant ones, too). The texture on the fish is so... fishy XD
Though I imagine it would be rather terrifying to be caught by an octopus.

i think you could have tilted the whole main shape more diagonally to the right, would be more dynamic.
