Description The three Pratt & Whitney R-4360 Wasp Major engines mounted on the port side wing of a Convair RB-36 bomber. In its final form, the engine was good for a whopping 4,3000 hp. Not bad giving the engines weight was nearly 4,000 lbs.

As a crewman once wrote, an oil change interval was never really called for. Consumption handled that. Even with each engine having its own 100 gallon oil tank, the massive 4,362.50 c.i.d (71.5 litre) powerplant was insanely oil thirsty. It wasn't uncommon for missions to end because the engines simply ran out of oil.

The PW R-4360-53 on the B-36 put out 3,800hp. One version of the 4360 did produce 4,300hp but I have never noted what it was installed on. Do you have any other information?

Heh, thanks Yeah, walked all around that thing. Ate a snack and took a break under the bomb bay- they set up a picknick table under it.
