yes there is a story connected to this in which i'm gonna re-launch in a few minutes.
No it's not permanent, it converts itself into a tattoo located on the left side of her torso. She can switch back and forth when she knows theres danger so it turns on automatically. its just stuffed with gooey mass of armour to the point where its full like a mouth full of pudding almost this its covered with a thick layer of mass to conceal it. it doesn't change to her DNA, but it allows her become super human for as long as she needs.
