Description
This is a design for Obsidian, another character that will come into play in the future. I like this picture, but there are a few things wrong with it. There are a few anatomical errors that need to be fixed, like where his tail connects to his body. His tail should be sitting a little further up along the end of the spine. I didn't notice these things until the pic was finished though. I guess I wasn't really paying attention to what I was doing. O_o But he's going to be redrawn in a comic anyway. Just thought I'd put this up because I DO like how the black came out. Working with black is challenging. ^^Irkens © JCV

What kind of techniques do you use when working with black color pencils? because I can't get my black that good.

When I use a black colored pencil, I just very lightly cover all the areas that are supposed to be black in a light gray. After that I gradually make the areas that will have shadow darker and darker until I get the black I want. Then if I need to, I'll go over the lighter areas very softly and make them just a little darker. Another thing to do is take a white colored pencil and add some highlight to the places you want to pop out of the black.
