Description

Well THAT was a bit of a lapse I left you guys on, update wise, wasn't it?  Only two last month, and a bit of a backlog piling up, lol. But considering my latest vacation left me VERY occupied for the last couple of weeks, I had reason! Now that I'm home and getting back into my little routines, hopefully things shall start rolling in a bit more smoothly. Here's hoping! XD

So this is a little mixture of using one of those heart tugging references I've had saved for awhile, plus touching on some characters I've been meaning to for a bit - here we have my (warthog) character Graff having a very soft moment with his youngest son, Bullseye (who's just a wee widdle babbeh here~).

This is something I've wanted to do for some time as sort of an update from some VERY older art/concepts behind these two and their relationship back in the day. If you've been familiar with my work from waaaay back in the day, Graff was originally a rather different person (much less pleasant, to say the least). And he actually disliked his youngest son for some reason I can't remember now o.o He was sort of along the lines of how I eventually created his own father Stanley to be.

That obviously changed (and led to the creation of Stanley's character, in a sense) as did the story. Given how cruel and unloving his parent was, Graff is very determined to be a much better man and father than Stanley was. And he indeed, loves all three of his boys very much. There's no favouritism either (especially considering Graff knows how it is to be the least favoured child - he was a second son, which when put alongside an eldest son/child and an only sister/youngest child, wasn't very notable).

But it's sufficient to say that Graff (and Beatrice) worries especially over Bullseye when he's born, considering he's the "runt" of the litter as it were (since Beatrice gave birth to triplets). Goresky and Chislett are both pretty plump and healthy little rugrats, whereas Bullseye is noticeably a few sizes smaller and nearly underweight. Honestly, given Graff comes from old country/less medically advanced means, and considering he watched his own sickly younger sister Crystal weaken, he probably thought there was a chance Bullseye was going to die D:

Thankfully, this isn't the case - there wasn't much risk of that happening, and he ends up thriving just fine (since he has a late growth start beside his brothers though, he never does quite catch up  Much to his later annoyance).

The relationship he has with Graff still has it's breaking point in the story, when Beatrice dies Considering Bullseye is just five and doesn't quite understand all of what happened leading up to it, he blames Graff, saying he broke her heart by leaving (that's obviously not the entire story, but Graff would be the first to admit he's certainly guilty in some regards, which he regrets for the rest of his life). And the final straw being when Graff allows Bullseye to go live at the orphanage - he sees it as his father not trying to fight for him and essentially feels abandoned (again, not how it went down exactly - but one of Graff's biggest faults is a lack of confrontation/assertion to say the least).

Despite this, and in regards to his earlier years, I like to think that Bullseye has always been a sense of hope for Graff (hence the title). That in, no matter how bleak certain prospects/the future look, there is always hope and chance that things can persevere and survive, if not improve. He never gives up or stops loving his son (even when Bullseye is an outright little shit to him), holding onto the hope that the painful rift between them will someday be healed.

I know it's kind of cheesy, but I just like how it sounds And on a happier note, Graff does get his wish later on in the story (to be honest, Bullseye forgives him a lot sooner than he lets on - he just wants to come back into better grounds with his father on his own stubborn terms). I mean, Bullseye's really not the most outward loving person to people he DOES care about to begin with, but he shows his love in his own nonsensical gruff way

...This description is probably a lot more interesting than the image itself But I mean, it's still pretty darn cute, no? LOOKIT WIDDLE BEANSY BABBEH BULLSEYE  And Graff's gentle fatherliness is just... bawww ;; He loves his little baby boy Poor Graff - WHY DO I GIVE YOU NICE THINGS AND TAKE THEM AWAY orz *bricked* Such is the way of my story, sob :'D

Aww, lil' Bullsy! I've been waiting for this since I saw the wip post. He's so cute!! Hm...his size to me reminds me of a preemie baby. Would be fitting given he's a 'runt'.

And it's nice seeing Graff get to have SOME happiness in his life...'least for a while.

Pretty much! I mean, he's not -technically- a preemie... but clearly Goresky and Chislett were kinda hogging the resources, as it were XD (he should be happy they didn't absorb him 8| *DIES*)

I like to think that's what subconsciously lead to Bullseye developing a pushy, over-compensating attitude in life  *BEATEN*

Indeed ;; Poor guy seems to be one of my top five tormented male characters 8(

...As I indicated in the description, that's kind of the point He's SUPPOSED to be very small (being the "runt" and all XD).

Heh... I usually don't read your descriptions, because there are sooo long... But it's good that you're translating and let interpret your work step by step, it's really helpful  .

By the way... Cuuteee <3

Not all of them! Okay, maybe this one a bit, but you think that's long? You should see the effort calicokatt puts into every one of hers~ It's mind blowing XD (and I applaud her for it)

But thank you Much appreciated!
