I have never encountered that particular colour combo for spirals before. It actually works surprisingly well.

How do you upload GIFs though? I just tried and its not working very well... It keeps saying that I can't upload it because there is no preview image...

You have to have an additional file to submit as the thumbnail, and it has to be much smaller in size. Either use GIMP to downscale the image and/or crop in to just a single part, or save a still frame to use as the thumbnail.

To be honest, I ultimately used four different image editing programs for different steps in the process.
Sai for the line work, colors, and shading.
Paint for the eye effect template.
Photoimpact for the individual eye ring frames. (Best gradient tool of any image editor I have ever used.)
And Gimp to compile and animate the whole thing.

No, not the shininess, the asymmetry. I think maybe you went a bit overboard? ... I dunno, It just looks weird to me. so weird that I'm sure that I'd succeed at resisting her powers, I'd be too busy staring at her mouth... and that's saying something

I think I've finally figured out what bugged me about the mouth.. (yeah, I know, took me long enough) First, she's kinda sneering at us right? Well, isn't the face supposed to move too? It kinda looks like a "Mrs. Potato-head" mouth. (just look at your face in the mirror, and sneer... more things are moving than just the lips right?) Also, mouth openings generally extend slightly beyond the lips (EXCEPT those that have overdone lipstick, and if that's the case, then you should increase lip-shine to a mirror-like quality). I suggest that you shrink the width (not the thickness) of the lips a bit.
