"Still as clingy as ever I see then Vinyl"
I finally gave in to all the requests for Vinyl's mother to make an appearance. But it came with so many problems on my part. I told myself I wasn't going to design her to be similar to Vinyl, then Vinyl's brother was shown in the IDW comics, and I couldn't get the whole idea of a white unicorn family with different coloured hairstyles out of my head. So after working out that seemed to be the only way to go, I opted to give her a far different hairstyle from her children.
Then I went and had a massive argument with myself about how Vinyl should address her mother. Seriously. 'Mother' seemed far too formal for Vinyl, and no doubt there would be an argument if I used either the the 'Mum' or 'Mom' term based on spelling, so I settled for 'Mama', mainly because it's funny, and also because it really hints at Vinyl being a mummies girl, contrary to her attitude when she's performing.
And let's not even get onto the subject of naming her! XD

Seven rough draughts later, that was the design I ended up with. Originally she was meant to be a pale blue with much longer chestnut coloured hair. The change in design is quite astounding.

Oh, Long Play is sure to appear some time. He was actually meant to appear in this, however, it seemed odd for Vinyl to address him as 'Brother', and I couldn't for the life of me remember his actual name.

The thing is, since octomum looks very similar to octavia, this could be taken unusally for them. For example, if vinyl's mum know of there relationship (if you consider to be one) then she might assume that this is some sort of fetish between vinyl and who she assumes to be octavia, but is in fact octomum.

I believe there will be three characters in your comic strip who are now at a lost for words, at least for a little while. Β You might call it an Equestrian standoff, where everyone's jaw is on the floor and no one really knows what is going on.

And now an epic cat fight between Octamum and Mrs. Scratch over who has the true right to be Vinyl's mother. Which knowing what we know about Octamum will involve her telling her to go baby her son instead.

Also, I thought that the guy in the IDW comics was her father. Is there somewhere where it says it's her brother?

Did the comic creator say that was her brother or something? All we know for sure is that he is a stallion older than Vinyl that is most likely related to her because they have similar mane-styles, coats, cutie marks, both unicorns, and she is riding on his back. Could mean father or brother, but IDK if it would mean either for shure.

To be totally honest chap, I've no idea. It's mainly what I've been told as information on the matter seems hard to come by. It's why I'm not planning on using the character until more information comes to light.

Probably a good idea, though I'm not sure if much more info will come. That was probably just a one time thing. I would say your best bet would be to choose one and use it. That's the way this fandom operates: we are given some information about something, and we extrapolate and fill in the gaps as much as possible, and eventually one or two prominent theories end up getting accepted and widely used. Things like with Lyra and Bon Bon, we saw them close together while Lyra was doing something significant (whole sitting like a human thing) and they ended up being friends or lovers. Derpy, whom we only saw unloading a van, ended up being a mailmare for many, even though she could have easily been helping a friend move out or been a helpful (sort of, by the way she dropped everything) bystander, as she was wearing no formal attire. It's kind of why I love this fandom, because we take what the show gives us and create our own worlds with it. They all have something in common, but each creation has some different aspects to it. And, better yet, the show is still going, so we are constantly given new material to work with, even if they contradict our old ideas (alicorn Twilight anyone?), they are still accepted and new ideas spring forth.

That would be so weird, everybody treating Vinyl like a baby. She would probably start throwing temper tantrums demanding people treat her like an adult. This would probably end up with her hiding in a friends house waiting for everything to blow over.
