Description
"Nopony makes fun of me except my wife!"A short little piece I had to create for my Animation course at University, in which we had to create a short ten second animation showing two principles of animation. The principles which I chose to animate were the 'Squash and Stretch' and 'Exaggeration' techniques. It's amazing just how much fun you can have with them! Even my lecturer loves this, saying "It's so nice to see characters that are cute and adorable trying to punch each others lights out for a change!"
To say this was my first ever attempt at animating in flash, I'm very pleased with myself with this.
UPDATE: Tweak a few lines, and now with added 'swoosh'!

Nice to see your first animation finally. (did you animate with something else than Flash before?)
And somehow nice to see how plain and simple it is. Don't get me wrong (I feel like this could sound very harshly or even offending) but in some way this also shows that you don't start with awesome animations right from the beginning, but make the small steps you always do when you learn, including the (seeming) backsteps (the simple and rougher style compared to the drawings in this case), that still lead to likeable results.
I looking forward to see your works and especially your further progress.
Btw: How exactly do you animate this? Drawn every single picture (like StarCrafts e.g.)?

Thanks for your nice comments.
Yeah, I'm actually more of a stop-motion animation person myself as I like having something physically in front of me to work off of, which explains why most of my work is traditional. Before this I'd mainly been working with cut out animation techniques (Much like the work of Oliver Postgate with his series 'Ivor the Engine'), so the transition between the two wasn't all too great.
Don't feel bad about saying it's simple, it's meant to be, as I always enjoy working in a simple style. I find it far more easier and sitisfying to get good results from simple techniques and styles than to try a really complicated and time consuming technique and not get any payback from it. That, and it shows other artists who are new to the field just what can be achieved with little to no experience at all.
As for further works, well if all goes according to plan, we should be seeing the Octaparents on an animated fishing trip in the not to distant future.
As for how it was created. It was all hand drawn with a graphics tablet, yes, but I copied and pasted all the parts of the characters that didn't move (such as the bodies) from frame to frame, meaning I only had to redraw moving limbs and eyes over and over again. When the characters lean they do so by means of skewing the line work of the image.

Thanks for this detailed response.
Ivor the Engine looks pretty charming. I think especially because these animation style reminds me of classical puppet theatre. But it is also pretty laborious, isn't it?
I see your point with the techniques. I like the simple ones as well and the challenge they can pose. But I for one also have ideas I could never achieve with them so that I have to try new and sometimes complicated things. It's a matter of what I aim for. Do I want to create something or do I want to learn, try, maybe fail, experiment?
Anyways, I'm still and stiller looking forward for you new stuff. And I feel the growing motivation to try some animations myself.

I can draw, write, make music, and use Garry's Mod and Source Filmmaker to make images.
But I can't, for the life of me, animate in Flash.

I found it's quite easy when you have a graphics tablet and start to get into the swing of things.

I think it's because Rob has a lot of people who like his comics and drawings. And, at least as for me, who also like to see his work from the studies. I don't only love to see great art, but also the small steps that lead to it.
Additionally, I search for new comments so that I must view the animation. Not a bad thing of course.

At the end of the day chap, I could really care how high the view counter goes. I put this on here because people are always asking to see some of the rough work from my Animation and Illustration University course, that, and it's humorous. If people just happen to enjoy it so much they watch it a good few times, then I've no problem with that.
There's more to DA than a high view count. I'd been here five years before I started to get noticed, but that was due to making friends with several other artists, who now offer me great second opinions when I need them on my work.

It's actually at the same sound level as the other sound effect. It may be a small problem with DA that caused it to be slightly louder, it's been having trouble playing here most of the day. :/

I laughed at the animation and then I laughed again at your description. xD The pie to the face is undoubtedly the greatest of revenge techniques! Very nice work, even more so considering it's your first attempt.
I especially like the look of dawning fear on the face of the brown stallion.

Yeah, that look of fear was a last minute addition. It works quite nicely though.

Thanks
