i love fluttermac but where did everyone come up with fluttermac instead of some other ponies? just interested.

It was just a random idea that caught on in the early days of the fandom because people realized that Mac and Shy had similar temperaments; they were both very kind and down to earth ponies [many say that Fluttershy is an earth pony at heart]. Big Mac could be very good and gentle with Fluttershy and he would have the patience to deal with her anxieties. It just made sense to a lot of people.
We also know that they both love to express themselves through song, so there's that!
