Description This is Oblevaatts, the Master Vintner, or master distiller of the Hedgerow's Firethorn wine. He oversees the production of the legendary- and infamous- hedge-boggles favorite beverage: Firethorn wine. Oblevaatts is also responsible for tending the firthorn vineyards, which also act as very effective barriers against unwanted guests. He's a no nonsense kinda guy! Typical of many masters, he can be quite stern, but no one can better him at his craft. You can, if you wish, learn more about Hedge-boggles and my other creatures on my web site- [link]
I hand stitch all the costumes myself. The main figure is made of polymer clay, and the body is a soft sculpt over a wire armature, so they all have some pose-ability. I use natural found materials and often the costumes are from clothes that were destined for the trash or that I find thrifting. I also use cloth and/or plastic greenery and berries. Basically, I use what ever I think will work.

Thanks, Jerome. He took a long time to do for some reason- it seemed that every time I was ready to resume work on him back then something bad would happen and interrupt the whole process!

Wow this is SO cool I saw comment you gave to ~tsunnamii. I canΒ΄t agree more hands and feet are extremly essential when making characters! I share your enthusiasm. ItΒ΄s good to have contact with you since IΒ΄m also started some modelling!

Yes IΒ΄m having probems with my current character, I have a problem with making the face look alive. and hands are going to be really frustrating!

The lofe a face is in the eyes- the direction they are looking, if they glisten with that wetness that real eyes have, and the expression on the face. The face will live. You have to becoem that character: what's she or he thinking? What are they feeling? At what or whom might they be looking at- then look in the mirror and see what you won face looks like when you smile, or frown, or pull a silly face, then sculpt that!

Hands....sigh...I love them, I hate them...they are not easy to do. And I am very exacting and hard on myself about them, so it makes it harder for me.

I have, got a friend excited about sculpey, so IΒ΄ll might pick it up again along with him.(That sounded like IΒ΄ve not been doing sculpey for years, but I couldnΒ΄t find a better way to explain it...)

Time and patience really are the main thing- I love the way older peoples hands and feet look and those of people who have worked hard and long with their hands. And since my hands match both categories, I have a ready model! You really just have to take your time with them- the ironic thing about sculpting my hands for my figs is that I kind of dread doing it and often put it off to the very last possible moment!!!! I'm fascinated by hands, feet and eyes- but hands and feet are very difficult to sculpt/model because of the way they really need to look to be convincing- to show life and even a soul. They are as essential to the characters overall emotional expression as the eyes are and the overall body pose can be.

I will try to put together some tutorials this fall or winter- that is those season's times for the northern hemisphere, I should say- on things like sculpting hands and feet the way I do. Some people don't like them very much- they think my version of them is too rough and indelicate looking. But look at some one who has lead a less then pampered life- that look is far more interesting to me.

One thing I will recomend that you do is to study those features and then begin to do sketches of them- it really helps a lot. Just get out the old drawing pad and pencil or pen and start sketching them, then practice sulpting/ modeling them in, say, Plasticene clay- also called modeling clay. Do you know what product I'm talking about? From there, you can start doing them in polymer! I hope that helps for now...

Thank you!

Mai oui! Brian Froud and Alan Lee's "Faeries" book was an accidental discovery of mine back when I was still in Jr High School!! They opened the gate to the Land of Faerie, and like all mortals who visit there, it forever changed me... They aren't the only influence on my work, but the work that they are doing and have done- along with Wendy's wonderful 3D stuff has been one of the major influences. Truth to tell, stories and tales of the wee folk have been with me since my own wee days! I'm glad you found your way here and that you enjoy my little ones! Come back any time!

I dig creepy, but it has to be that sort of subtle something, or sligthly elusive, like seeing something dodging around the corner of a deserted building out of the corner of your eye, or like your altered photos. At first I went, "WOW!!! Those ladies are really hot...but, something isn't right... >GULP< !" Cool stuff!
