Description
I usually avoid making ref sheets because they tend to scream "DRAW MY CHARACTER, PREFERABLY NAKED OK GUYS?!" but I was testing out my ability to color with out any line work and, at the same time, remake this character in a way that wouldn't make me want to rip off my fingers with pliers. I like to imagine I succeeded in both regards but I'm sure I didn't for any number of reasons that I'm too naive to see. Anyway don't bother getting on my case about the lack of a background this, after all, was a character study and if I were to include a background I sure as hell would have included a better pose while I was at it.I might ditch my line work altogether in favor of this more painterly look because I kind of (and by "kind of" I mean "really") like it better. I put it up here to see what other people think. In other words: DON'T FAVE IT WITHOUT COMMENTING. Honestly you can get away with that kind of thing if it's someone who obviously doesn't respond to them anyway or is already ridiculously popular, but us "lesser" beings don't want feedback, we bloody NEED it.
That was surprisingly angry sounding.
Oh yeah and if you couldn't figure out that I'm a fan you must be stupid.

I'm Lineart+Digital refinement/coloring.. but I've always been fond of painted works..
Aye one classy-looking gent he is.. Dressing for success. as a side note I generally frown upon unclothed references.. but I don't want to start a brawl either.

Well thanks, I sometimes do line art. Just not as much anymore.
He's clothed simply because I don't really have ideas/ a need for other outfits; and he certainly won't be appearing without one. No brawlin' though, see way too much of that on the 'net.

Hey Kit, it's Jess from Intro class. ;3
I really like your suave anthro characters! They have such panache. Painting without lineart turned out looking really nice, too... I can't do digital stuff, though, so I might be easily impressed. ;3 But yeah, nice work!

Idk why you wouldn't want to put clothes on them, it would make it more of a challenge to make it look realistic, and it would probably get more recognition for such a success. (Don't smash my head into a thousand bits with an old fax machine for saying such a thing!!)

Ref sheets typically feature characters in the buff or wearing very little; that's just the nature of the thing.
Also, despite my best efforts, anthro characters featuring little to nothing are far more popular than there dressed up counterparts, this is a fact. Please stop trying to address the issue with me; it's very annoying. You know my thoughts on how it stands. Just Stop.

Really? Well, I didn't know that as I didn't even know there really was any "anthro" art out there until I met you. I'm sorry if I "annoy" you, I'll try to limit my comments to the elements and principles of design.

you've outdone yourself this quarter, and this is no exception. Wonderful job with the lighting, especially on his face, hat, and right(our left) side. i forget what you said that effect is called...when light wraps around a figure...but you do it well. Again, nice job with his tail. the whole thing looks very three-dimensional....how's that?......pokes Angelina...feedback girl feedback! lol

Are you talking about that blue highlight along the left side? That's just a harsh back-light it's something I picked up from being a admirer. Art snobs call it a "penumbra" I believe.

oh and uh feedback...
He looks a bit too broad hip-wise. anatomy's fine obviously though. I guess there can be hip-gifted fox dudes.

He's got the child-bearin' hips!
No but seriously his hips are kind of large, he was skinnier but looked wonky; maybe he's just bigger butted or something or wearing an exceptionally tight pair of slacks.

Oh I say, it's nice to see you continuing the experimentation with male characters; gotta love the unsaturated colors (makes it look more Olde Tyme).

In Olde Thymes everything was less colorful and smelled worse.

People must have had stronger...face muscles back then because I've tried keeping one of those damn things in my eye and it gets surprisingly tiring.
My face needs to hit the gym and buff up.

the lack of line work is really working in this picture, I really like it. The colouring is awesome, 'specialy on the tail!

Thanks, I think I'm going to say goodbye to line-work (probably the only person in sequential to do it too). As for tails, they're surprisingly easy, just take a 50% opacity round camel hair brush in Painter and lay it in with long, overlapping, streaks.
