A Painting I did for a Book on Atlantis.I really love the turtle, I rarely ever paint animals. I think I should do so more often

This is gorgeous! Wonderful colors, great details, and I love the sense of being deep underwater here. I like the pose of the mermaid - with one small exception.
I love the bend of the tail, but it seems too sharp of a bend - as if she had actual knees. If you think about the nature of a mermaid, haf human, half fish, then she wouldn't have legs, much less knees. He tail would bend more serpintine like. More curvaceous and flowing.
Other than that, I love this! Its gorgeous!

Shades of the Hans Christian Anderson "The Little Mermaid" story are in this lovely illustration. A mermaid innocent in the presence of a significant statue. I like that she has "elfin" ears, merelves are a passion of mine...
Nice color scheme on the mermaid, and the spot detailing on her face and body adds interest and mystery (where do the dots go in the front as they roll over her shoulder?). What I think is the dorsal fin looks related to her shoulder blade at this angle.
She looks like she is "sending" telepathically to the turtle, as the pose and attitude is very specifically engaged here between the two of them, it does not seem a casual or accidental pose. It looks like the two other turtles are waiting patiently as this fore placed turtle is getting his message from this mermaid, T here seems to be a bit of a worry or bother to her message. Being hunched forward she is intent on the importance of her message, but her shoulders rolled forward with her cradling her arms suggest a guardedness about her body language, especially with her hand looking quite tight around her arm. Also her tail bending in at the "knee" also adds that aspect of nervousness to the message being delivered.
The modesty of the statue is interesting, considering that statues of this type are regarded as art in their naked state. Possibly understandable if this is for a children's book, but if so, maybe, a more modestly clothed statue would be a more appropriate choice. Having the mermaid and the statue in nakedness seems to have meaning.

This was actually, or is, in a book, published in a book about Atlantis, just this past year. Yes Nudity was a no-no, But if you look at the rest of my gallery, I do have quite a few Nudes. Thank you for your indepth comment

Hey Boogarshadow, thanks for the reply. I do love your mermaid, and the expressions you have captured for me to read into her. When art is as beautiful and skillful as yours, I no longer look at the drawing or the technique per say, but focus on the acting and story that the art, especially in illustration, has conveyed. Congratulations on your being published as a childrens book illustrator, that is an area I've not yet been suceessful at pursuing, it might be because I like nudity in my mermaids too, and am not willing to bend

When it's your Job, sometimes you have to bend a little.
I do have nude mermaids, but many people dont want nudes on their walls, so sometimes I "cover them up" a little.
