Description
Man, it's been a long time since I put anything out and I apologize. However, here is the next piece in continuation with the previous. I really wanted to capture Fluttershy in the Everfree forest but I wanted to make it dramatic so... burn baby burn. Spent a good 8 hours on this with a decent amount of time experimenting. Hope you all like this piece, I hope to do Rarity next but I have some other works that I'm in the middle of.Related content

your piece really strikes me. something very original. your armor series is already very good but i didn't know if you could make a piece that could top the last one.... i was so so wrong.... the detail and lighting is pinpoint accurate, the motion for the picture really gives you a feel of whats going on and puts you inside the picture. the colors complement well and over all the piece is very satisfying to look at. proportion-wise its very good, however the wing is a bit too far upward. it makes you really guess where the wing connects to the torso is rather than assuming where it should be. the armor piece that connects to it might be the problem because it dosent have the motion for where the wing is. your shading is very well situated in the front but when light is focused very hard on the front, especially on armor, there is a very stronger tone to compliment the brightness. as it gets further. you have a very good sense of how to do it, it just needs to be defined a bit more in my opinion.the hair dynamic is insanely good and matches the motion of the pictures curve. maby add some stronger orange highlights in the front of her hair to show how intense the heat is. finally the vision... now this is all my opinion, but i think it is a bit too smudged on the edges of the picture. i know its supposed to represent the intense heat, but its not fowling the motion of the picture as the effect runs along the bottom of the trees, it also has to flow from the parts in between the trees. to me, when you put the effect just in those arieas to give it motion, and leave other arias untouched, it makes the untouched Aries look flat and it really takes my attention away from the flames draws me out of the feel that its really hot and dangerous. all in all, its a masterpiece and if i had a chance i would get a print. its just minor details that can really make someone ponder how this forest fire happened! this is one of my most favorite pieces and you should be really proud of what you have accomplished!
again this is just my opinion, take or leave the critique, and remember, if you dont like my advice, there are so many other eyes who see it differently than me. hopefully the can help you more than me.e.deviantart.net/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="

Hey thanks for the critique and I do like your advice. I tried a different method with this piece that made the shading a bit more difficult to do on flut. I have lots of area to improve there. And for the wings I knew that the angle was weird and even did fix it but one of my layers glitched on me and got askew and I thought I fixed it but now I see that I forgot to fix one of the armor pieces and the armor of the wing. :/ oh well

No, I thought the armor on the wing was brilliant! Just some of the armor dident flow into the next bit of armor which made look strange. But that's not a problem. Its just planning ahead

XD thanks! Well I have been sitting out of photoshop recently to work on things like maya and zbrush. So working with you would be an awsome kickstart back into photoshop for me! I know your working on your armor series atm, and an oc of mine is strongly structured around his armor so maby we can use him and an oc of
Yours in armor maby fighting some changelings or something... well note me or il note you and maby we can make something kick butt.

HA! Bunny shaped hoof armor! You rock Fluttershy!
The firestorm looks great and the blurred embers and tree close to the viewer draw you into the scene and add motion and a feeling of apprehension. Great work, A+ background/foreground!
Pose looks good, and your actions are opposed, (wind and fire going right opposed by FS going left) adding interest, but I wonder if you have centered her in your frame too much?
I don't know if you intended to be less gritty with Fluttershy as compared to your earlier works, or if you had intended to romanticize/idealize her a bit by keeping her appearance clean and bright?
Lastly, with her face half covered, Fluttershy's eyes are the only means you have to tell us how she is feeling. If you block out everything but her face, her expression appears to me to be distressingly neutral. She doesn't appear to be squinting against the wind and heat, nor are her eyes widened with shock/horror. Was this an element you struggled with during its creation?
This is another great example of your work. I would enjoy hearing more about your process.

Wow, you had a lot to say and I'm glad for it. I centered her to keep with the trend of my previous pics where they are all centered. I did try to I guess romanticize her a bit. The idea for this picture was to put Fluttershy in a position that would normally cause her to panic or tremble but here I wanted her to seem more fearless and focused on doing what ever she can to help.
I actually had drawn her her face without the covering, but I wanted the piece to be somewhat practical. I tried putting in some tears to show that she was hurting, but I didn't make them stand out, so they're just faded in.
Process wise... It's a mess. I try to keep a process but I always stray from it. It goes sketch, color background, select colors for figure, then just go all over the place until finished :/ It's why it always takes me longer than needed. But that's all right, I learn from each piece and from what others like your self have to say so thank you.

Every new drawing you upload looks better than the previous. You're improving quite fast, I think. The scenery here looks good and even somehow detailed. The fire is also smoother now than in Twilight's drawing last month. Well spent 8 hours on this one here.
One thing that you might want to experiment on is ambient lighting or whatever it's called. The light on Fluttershy seems too bright and direct for the depicted scene, kinda as if she was floodlit.
Nevertheless, really good work.

Thanks SleeptoFade. Always like reading your comments. Your right with the lighting though, I chose her colors too soon without the background and had to waste some time trying to blend it a little. Thanks for noticing my improvement though and I hope to keep on doing so.
