I pretty much did this for the sake of making a huge render, but the result is pretty sweet too.My only question: is the bright spot on the left too bright/distracting?

Wow.
But i think the bright spot is a little bit to .. well not to big but i doesn't fit in the image. It's to smooth. it needs some share edges so that you can better see what is glowing and what reflexts the light

You are very welcome. It is rare that a piece of fractal will look like art to me and not just the same old thing that any-old guy with a laptop can spit out at a dime a dozen. Really, really well done. I would suggest it for a daily deviation.

heh, I think a DD for this would be a bit of overkill, but thanks very much 
and your comment below this one (about the bright spot), I spent like a half hour making that spot bigger and smaller, so I just wanted to know if my final decision was good.

Oh, and no. The bright spot in the middle is awesome, I think of it as the center of the piece, not a distraction.
