Description
I'm kind of challenging myself to come up with a group of characters based on chess pieces. Right now I'm working on the white or red pieces and have a Bishop, Queen, King and Knight character. I'm still trying to come up with a good way to do a Rook, and then I'll work up some Pawns and move on to the black or blue pieces. Comments and suggestions are very welcome at this stage.Related content

Though it may not help any....try creating a peon looking character for the pawns..all weak and powerless.....i mean they can only moves one space and can hardly fight worth crap.....so have a puny looking poen with sagging armor and a shield thats to big for them....or not......your quite a talented invisionary sort of person, i say. I AM THE GOD OF THE GARDEN GNOMES!!!!!!!...or not

VERY nice. love it.
concerning the rook,I once played this old computer game where it was chess, but when ever you moved a piece they'd animate and animate to attack, each different for each piece they attacked. It was truely great. But what they did for the rook I always thought was pretty neat, and it even gave me nightmares. The castle would come to life and form into a stone monster! But for your l33t skillz, just a rock monster wouldn't be as great as,oh say maybe,an atomiton(sp?)....you know, the 'robots' of the past, which were pretty much windup dealys but much more complex then that...anyway,I was thinking of kinda a thing like that. But you're the talented visionary! Do yer thing,yo.
hope i helped somehow...even if I just added to your 'hell no' list. still helping.

These are wonderful! Here's an idea. I know a Rook is traditionaly portrayed at a castle tower, but the word rook also means "to cheat or defraud". There is a card game called rook and it is symbalized by a crow or raven. Maybe a piece like that would work.

These are awesome!! Your stuff is so expressive. The horse and the bishop are my favs.
The bishop should probably have five fingers like everyone else. The knight on the horse seems like he should be a little bigger. Only thing I would suggest for the queen is to give her a fancier outfit.
Can't wait to see what else you come up with for this!

i agree with josh about the queen. Perphaps if you ornated the bottom half of the dress (maybe try a lolita esques frill arrangement....shudder) a little bit. also considering the nature of the game and the role of the queen compared to the other pieces, what if she had a bit of a pompus (sp?) look to her character? the proportions are working for her and the other characters though. the king especially.

haha, love the expression on the horse's face and the way you've portrayed the impotence of the king.
i agree with grinning-oni though, the queen looks a little unimpressive. i mean, come on, she's The Queen. You're supposed to shit your pants when she approaches any of your pieces.
i imagine the rook being a squat, somewhat burly kind of guy. don't know if that'd help for inspiration.
nice work!

The bishop is cool, and the knight's horse is just awesome.
The queen, looks a bit plain to me, I think her costume could use some more oomph.
