Description
After my Pionpi pic, here's another Sarasaland picture, although this time not so much of its citizens then of its invaders.Tatanga is the only alien in Super Mario Land that we see, but that doesn't mean that there couldn't be others like him. This pic shows Tatanga (in the middle) and two of his possible crewmen. The uniforms are based on his comic incarnation with small alterations here and there.
The Mario universe is full of fun one-shot characters. Nintendo should bring some of them back some day.

I guess they could, although they weren't meant to be. All similarities are more due to them being of the same species.

This is so weird I'm writing a comic right now about this subject.

So... Who are Tatanga's henchmen? Do they have names? I think the female one is kind of cute.

Thanks a lot. Glad to know that she turned out cute.
Well, admittedly I don't have much of a backstory for Tatanga's henchmen. I just thought that he would've hardly gone to Sarasaland all by himself (and there were many UFOs in the game, just no aliens). As for names, well, when drawing them, I sort of went with the purely made up names Tanka (the girl) and Feliz (the guy). *shrugs* Don't ask me what made me think of these names, probably something I heard or read somewhere, but I don't know anymore.

He didn't go to Sarasaland all by himself. He had help from the likes of King Totomesu (the lion/sphinx), Dragonzamasu (the sea horse creature), Hiyoihoi (the Easter Island head with arms and legs), and Biokinton (the cloud) to help him.
Those names are fine, though. Will you be drawing them more? Maybe with the characters I just mentioned?

Really? I was under the impression that the kings were inhabitants of Sarasaland, just larger.
But thanks. Maybe I'll draw more of them.

If they were, then they wouldn't bother fighting Mario, and instead would have helped him get rid of Tatanga... Or at least that's how I see it.

Who knows why they helped Tatanga. Maybe he bribed, blackmailed or otherwise tricked them into helping him. Or they could have been brainwashed/ under a spell. Or they are generally hostile towards strangers.
Many possibilities.

Yes Totomesu, Drogonzamasu, Hiyoihoi and Biokinton, who were rulers of the different kingdoms in Sarasaland, were brainwash into fighting Mario rather than helping Mario. In Mario land 2 we found out that Tatanga was assisting Wario, by drawing Mario away from the Mushroom kingdom.

I've heard about that theory, but I'm not convinced that Wario was behind everything in SML1 yet.

Yeah, especially since that game is like Super Mario Land in that it's got no in-game information.
