Many years ago, I dabbled a bit in game creation with the RPG Maker. I never really went that far with it, but I still have fond memories of it. I especially enjoyed the somewhat cartoony aesthetics of the characters and monsters from the 2000 version.

Then, one day, I had the idea of recreating some of the monster graphics in a much higher resolution. I picked Medusa as a suitable starting point and went to work.

And when I was done, I thought that Medusa would also work as a suitable ending point, honoring the age-old tradition of my RPG Maker projects being rather short-lived. Oh well...

Anyway, I used this project as an opportunity to be a bit more experimental with some soft shading and lots of gradients. I like the result well enough, but I'm not sure yet if I'll do more stuff in this style. Might be worth practicing it a bit more.
