Description
As a lot of fans know, Applejack was directly inspired (and named after) a G1 Pony. However, Applejack only appeared in the pilot episode Rescue at Midnight Castle. While her name and overall appearance are shared with her G4 Successor, I noticed that there was another Pony in G1/My Little Pony N Friends who had some things in common with G4 Applejack: Truly, a southern accented pony who likes wearing a hat (sound familiar?). She was a main character in several episodes of the My Little Pony N Friends series.

In Tales (AKA G1.5), there was Starlight (not to be confused with G4's Starlight Glimmer) who was similarly level-headed and responsible (although some of her traits were given to G4 Twilight, like being the most studious and the leader). Just like Applejack works at her Family's Farm, Starlight works with her mum at the Ice Cream Shop/Hairdressers (Yeah, Tales was kind of weird).

I'd argue that Lauren Faust and the other writers probably had these other characters in mind when redesigning Applejack for G4, at least on a subconscious level.
