Description Full-view for details.

Created from sketch to finish in Photoshop7

Ive been dying to do a sci-fi monster piece for a long time now and this one has elements that ive been trying to incorporate into a composition for a long time.

I glanced at a few photos of various abandoned factories, camcorders and CDC biohazard suits for accuracy's sake, in addition to several close-up stills of a couple 80's horror movies used to get the expression I wanted for the foreground victim.

Thank you in advance for coming by my gallery - comments are always welcome.

I hope you enjoy it as much as I did drawing it.

Awesome piece, thanks to the Daily Deviations at the bottom of the page, and lagging computer (which left me enough time to be interested in this piece, and open a new tab).

Reminds me of the "Half Life" series:
"Experiment is going as predicted; no signs of any abnormalities"
Later, when you replay, you sit there laughing "Oh, yeah? Are you sure about that? Well, nevertheless you're screwed."

By the way, what is the original species of the creature if it didn't look like that to begin with? Perhaps a human being? (I think I can see some features of a human, even some beard stubble)

Also, who's handling the camera? To me, the camera person (if any) seems to either be greatly enjoying the moment ("You'll be the first to go down!"), or is terrified enough to escape well beforehand (hence another reason for the expression of the person facing us, and for the camera distortions).

Those things also leave us to our imaginations. Once again, bravo. It has made it to my faves list.

I dont know - was he once human? perhaps alien? perhaps a combination of the two..or something much more sinister?

And who is handling the camera?
Did he/she ever escape?

These are all things left up to the viewer!

Thank you so much for this commentary - your questions and observations (beard stubble)are inspiring and let me know im on the right track with involving the viewer.

I appreciate ya.

Awesome mate. and the angle really works!
Just to chuck an idea your way. Have the camera display the mans distressed face with a slight bit of the monster showing up and have the camera covering the real mans distressed face instead of seein two.
Looks awesome though Fav+.

I did indeed.

I usually work between 25-400% magnification.
It would drive you nuts to watch since I constantly zoom in and out to cross-check my work to make sure the piece is balanced.

AAAHHHH! It reminds me a lot of the bloodsucker from Stalker: Shadow of Chernobyl, but beefier (more muscle-e), particularly in the lab environment and everything.

Great job

Wow... that's so well done, it's giving me shivers. Even if I were just watching the monitor that it's on I'd be wetting myself. It's not often I see pictures that evoke their own atmosphere, but this one really, really does. It's scary and beautiful at the same time. And it'll also keep me awake at night
Well done!

the textures and shading are awesome on this! i especially love how the foreground victim's scream is fogging up his visor. the angle and sense of motion rocks-- i definitely get the feel that i'm there, too, trying to run for my life and tripping over my own feet in terror (and that in about three seconds i'll drop the camcorder and get eaten messily).

the monster kinda reminds me of cthulu. X3

again, wonderful job!
