Yum indeed! Biro is a brand but its a generic (british) term for a cheap ballpoint pen. I forget that some terms dont translate (Hoover=vacuum cleaner)

Ah, I got ya. There's lots of stuff like that, such as fag in America being a derogatory term for gay, but only a cigarette butt in Britain. The best one is rubber meaning eraser or condom. Can lead to some pretty funny/awkward situations xD

although on my side, there isn't as much confusion. We adapt Americanism's quite well here. And I'm afraid that I've lived so many years outside of the UK that I've toned that down and tend to use the more international friendly terminology. But it's fun to confuse my American friends!
