AS THE SHADOW stepped through the portal, everybody backed off. Mac was puffed up when he noticed, the only ones readying their weapons were Aura and himself.
F**kin' lab rats!, he cussed to himself.
By now the newcomer had left the portal and had firmly entered the lab. Mac could see red boots and a black cloak, obscuring most of her body. She, for it was most definitely a she, didn't seem to be armed but to Mac that ment nothing. In his line of work, he had seen people command the elements with their hands and mere thoughts. On more than one occasion he had worked with Vigil, a woman with a mind so powerful, she could have committed genocide with as little as a thought! It was only because of her morals that she wasn't considered a threat to the world. But she could also read minds, sense danger ... and that was one of the many reasons, Mac wished she would be standing next to him right now.
"Halt!", Aura called and sounded scarily close to her old Nejil-persona.
The woman froze. She turned her head in their direction, no doubt eyeing them from under her cloak. Mac hoped by god they didn't look as frightened as he felt. Only now, the portal hissed and slowly closed. Thus ridding them of their chance to get the intruder back to wherever she came from quickly and without a fight. Before he could get a hold of himself, Aura continued to do what was supposed to be his job.
"You have entered a restricted area, uninvited! State your name and your intentions!"
The hooded woman seemed to stare at her, then looked at him. Mac finally found his tongue. He gestured in Aura's direction.
"Like she said! Who are you?!"
The idea of a smile stole itself onto Aura's face, then quickly disappeared again. Meanwhile, the hooded woman was unreadable. She didn't seem threatening ... but she clearly didn't feel threatened by them either. Again, she looked around, her mouth opening a few times. Like a fish gasping for air or perhaps she was mouthing a spell? Was she a magician? Finally, she spoke.
"This is no magic!", she stated, sounding awestruck. "Your tinkerers must be far, far superior to ours!"
She paused, then looked at Mac again, clearly startled.
"Am I even still in Krysta?"
"Krysta?", Mac repeated. "You a friend of Lyn's?"
"Lyn ... Dragona?"
Suddenly an ominous aura appeared around the woman, who seemed ready to pounce.
"The Colddrake?"
"Cold ...?"
Mac's brows lowered, then rose, almost performing a dance.
"No, no! Queen Lyn Dragona, Dragonborn!"
The woman relaxed, but seemed confused. After a moment of silence, she finally said:
"I think you and I need to have a very long talk, before we know if we are even talking about the same thing!"
At that, she threw back her hood. Mac's gut tightened into a knot when he saw her face.
"Sir, want me to call security?", one of the scientists whispered.
"No!", Mac gasped. "Call for Dragonborn!"
