That said: The render is purplelicious! I really like how it came out--it almost feels real. The 2D work over it is also amazing.

The airbrushing has potential to look really good, but it's not realistic enough for the shape. If there were less diffusion (i.e., if you turned the opacity down or changed the blending mode), it might look better. (I say "might" because I can't put my finger on what the exact problem is.)

All in all: It's damn better than anything I could do. That gives you major bonus points.

Very cool. I'm really feeling the whole red thing you've got going here. A very fitting name. Anway, I think that the light bursts could be a little darker as they stand out a little too much against the dark background. Anway, nice job.

Those internal dark red tones are absolutely killer. They look like swirling pits of hate. Instead of having light bursts, why not be negative and invert them?
