Ah, yes. After Hillary Clinton lost the U.S. Presidential Election to Donald Trump, she made her graceful and humble speech to the country, telling everyone to come together as one, regardless of who the winner was. This was of course the day after, as opposed to immediately, due to "being too upset from the loss". Yeah, because THAT sounds someone who's strong enough to run AN ENTIRE COUNTRY!

ANYWAYS…

During her speech, she made a comment about the "glass ceiling". Yes, she was referring to a female becoming President of the United States, but the argument is still a tired, old feminist claim about how women and minorities are SOMEHOW IN THIS DAY AND AGE prevented from raising to or above standards that were previously achieved by others. More information on it here:

www.merriam-webster.com/dictio…
www.feminist.org/research/busi…
en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Glass_ce…

Little did she know (or care to know, for that matter) that the following 11 women set milestones (not necessarily achievements, but milestones; big difference) in the United States Government during the 2016 U.S. Presidential Election:

Melania Trump, first person born in a communist nation to become U.S. First Lady. *Yes, I agree, not much of a milestone, but still one nonetheless.
Kellyanne Conway, first woman to win U.S. presidential campaign.
Ilhan Omar, first Somali-American legislator.
Catherine Cortez Masto, first Latino U.S. Senator.
Kamala Harris, first Indian Senator and California's first African-American Senator.
Tammy Duckworth, first Asian American woman to become Illinois Senator, first disabled woman to be elected to the U.S. House of Representatives, and the first member of Congress born in Thailand.
Carla Hayden, first female and African American Librarian of Congress.
Kate Brown, first openly bisexual person as governor of Oregon.
Stephanie Murphy, first Vietnamese-American woman to be voted role in congress.
Pramila Jayapal, first Indian-American woman to be elected to the US House of Representatives.
Lisa Blunt Rochester, first woman and the first black representative to serve Delaware in Congress.

BONUS: Hillary Clinton, first female in U.S. history to become a presidential nominee for the Democratic party: www.motherjones.com/politics/2…

Maybe if she pulled her head out of her ass and paid more attention to what's going on, she might not have looked so stupid and realized that the so-called "glass ceiling" has been shattered.

Yeah I agree, the glass ceiling has definitely been shattered. I mean she got the popular vote for crying out loud! and one day we most likely will have a female President. and I hope when we do it's someone far more fit for the job than this witch.

brentcherry In reply to Coreyinthehouse [2017-01-04 04:13:52 +0000 UTC]

Oh I agree! And the kicker is that if you take away the state of California, she would've lost the popular vote.

It doesn't matter if she was a woman or a man, she was not fit for the duty, and trump is much worst but thanks to the way this system works we had no choice. Although there is always a choice to not vote, right?

Cherry picking.  Very sad, and limited cherry picking, its as dumb as saying Islam isn't homophobic just because boy-screwing Sultans existed centuries ago.  Or that Islam isn't sexist just because Sultanas existed.  Didn't really think this through, did you.

And Melania Trump clearly ISN'T the First Lady, if Trump hasn't officially been sworn in yet.  I don't even understand what birthplace has anything to do with anything.  And Conway clearly didn't win a Presidential Campaign if she didn't become President.

Also funny how everyone turned into Dory and forgot about Trump saying "I'll accept the results if I win".

👍: 0 ⏩: 3

AlaineSniperian In reply to kyrtuck [2016-12-28 15:08:18 +0000 UTC]

And then all around the Liberals did anything, BUT accept the results when they were revealed.

Why did you only include Islam in your argument? Include other countries if you want it to seem more realistic and correct. Then again, you're probably racist against Islamic people, so that's why you only used Islam as your evidence.

kyrtuck In reply to coolcat1510 [2016-11-29 17:32:32 +0000 UTC]

Fine, I coulda talked about homosexuality being sporadically tolerated in the aristocratic, and military elite of Middle Ages Christain and Islamic nations, and even more Ancient civilizations.  I just only put out Islam there because other people have said I'm not critical enough of them.

brentcherry In reply to kyrtuck [2016-11-28 20:45:15 +0000 UTC]

How is it cherry-picking? I think it serves the point pretty well.

No, but she will be, once he's sworn in. Conway was Trump's campaign manager, and the only female to win for that matter.

Yeah, it's funny.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kyrtuck In reply to brentcherry [2016-11-28 21:16:28 +0000 UTC]

Its cherry picking because its just a very small handful of individuals, and may very well not prove anything on the subject as a whole (and I saw you do the same thing with women historians, on some social media post). I know of Madame C.J. Walker, a black woman from the 1890s who became a self made millionaire creating hair care products.  It doesn't mean the 1890s were ideal for blacks or women.

Actually come to think of it, why is First Lady any kind of milestone anyways?  Its a completely decorative position, that's just latched on to the elected position that actually does matter.  Melaine didn't fight any kind of battle, triumph over any kind of odds, or accomplish anything, except to just be there.

👍: 0 ⏩: 3

coolcat1510 In reply to kyrtuck [2016-11-29 15:39:13 +0000 UTC]

Also, being sexist in saying that the First Lady, who actually does things, is just "decorative" isn't helping you prove any sort of point. There was one president, forgot his name, but when he became disabled, his wife, the First Lady, helped him run EVERYTHING. Is that decorative? No, it's not decorative. She helped him run the country. That doesn't seem decorative to me. When Bill Clinton cheated on Hillary when in office, the public didn't like it, because he was cheating on his wife. Guess what happened? He got impeached. If he was faithful to his wife, he wouldn't have been impeached. Do you really want an impeached President back in office with his wife, who was very corrupted, as President? I sure wouldn't, and even though I am a woman, I would never vote for Hillary. I don't vote for corruption to run my country.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kyrtuck In reply to coolcat1510 [2016-11-29 17:38:05 +0000 UTC]

ehhh, I can't even name most of the First Ladies, let alone, what they were famous for.  The only ones that really stood out were Jaqueline Kennedy, Hillary Clinton, and Michelle Obama, all being from, as others might put it, "hippy dippy wimpy reigns that corrupted America away from the greatness that it was in the 1950's and earlier".

And Bill Clinton sure didn't get impeached, because that would have to mean his Veep Al Gore taken over, which certainly didn't happen.  Technically, none of our Presidents got impeached, since Nixon resigned.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hollyleaf53 In reply to kyrtuck [2016-11-30 00:25:00 +0000 UTC]

There's a difference between getting impeached and getting taken out of office. Bill was impeached, but he didn't get taken out of office. Know about how politics work before you start criticising people's work over it.

Cherry-picking is when you only search for information that confirms your beliefs while ignoring the ones that contradict it. Hillary made a statement, and all I did was provide evidence that proved her argument wrong and flawed. That's not cherry-picking. This was within the context of breaking the "glass ceiling" during the 2016 election cycle, so anything that happened before then or outside of U.S. is completely irrelevant.

You're confusing milestone with achievement. A milestone is a significant event or stage in the life, progress, development, or the like of a person, nation, etc., whereas an achievement is an accomplishment based on one's personal content of character.
