Description It would probably be scary to adventure with level 1 clerics and wizards in real life, since they don't really know what they're doing yet.

Especially clerics.

Well, in games, yes. But actually traveling with an inexperienced User of Magic is very rare. Most are trained before they go on group Adventures. The only time they're not is if they have a single helpful characteristic or if they have an Artifact.

I adventured with level 13 clerics that had literally no idea what they were doing aside from casting random spells and jumping into melee combat. Kit them out with elven chain or mithril armours and just call them a meat shield by any other name.

Played smartly, the Cleric can potentially be the most useful, helpful, and likeable character class in the party.
Played stupidly, they are viewed as and used like little more than an arrow sponge.

Well, I happen to be a lvl 1 wizard and my brother happens to be a lvl 1 cleric... I'm proud to say that neither of us have done anything like that... Although the druid did...

It would be cool to see games that take that approach. Maybe stronger effects with a possibility of random sh*t to happen. After all they are still starting and the same logic could be carried all the way. First time using teleportation let's say and it should be pretty complicated to do it right.

Yeah, they have rules for "Critical Misses" with physical weapons, where if you role a 1, you could wind up hitting yourself or dropping your sword, but there's nothing like that for magic. And I would think that something as mysterious and difficult to control as magic would have a way bigger margin of error.

It's more common in other systems. White wolf's Mage: the awakening for example, has paradox if people see you using magic, and any time a pysker does ANYTHING it's likely to go haywire.

You're right...SO RIGHT!!!!one. This is why my minions (Players) are gonna find healing potions early in the game

See, I never had this problem, cause I (a) the first MMORPG I played everyone was very good at telling (yelling at) me how to heal them, and (b) by the time I started playing D&D I was so used to playing a healer it was second nature. Now I'm the default healer.

/sigh.

Can I play something OTHER than a healer?! ~.~

I play an MMO currently and there was an event a long while ago which I was excited for.

On the game I play there is open world PVP. There are only a few safe zones where you can't be killed for any reason other than if you are DoT'd and it ticks while you are loading into the area. Its quite fun and I enjoy it playing as...a paladin. Now, this isn't your WoW paladin who can opt into Tank, DPS, or Healer aspects of the game. This paladin is a well-rounded, tank support. I have mapped a key to make do immense damage at the cost of healing power/take more damage for an entire minute. I am pretty good at this class.

During the event, people chose certain classes which fare pretty well in the PVP environment: Rogues, Necromancers, Rangers, Monks, Shadow Knights, Berserkers, Beastlords, Wizards and...well, Magicians. All of them are able to output a ton of damage extremely quickly.

I, however...chose a cleric. Greater healing than the paladin, greater defense boost from abilities, greater support all around than a paladin. Only problem was...once I started playing my cleric...everyone wanted to group with me. I was playing the tank AND the healer at the same time (boxing, I know...its lame.) but since I played a paladin first, it wasn't so bad. I just had to play smart...I even kill a few people on my cleric and paladin combo. ;3

welp.....no not really once you have a talent for a certain class you will always fall bak on that class, for instance i dont like to think to much in combat soooo i can never really be a healer or spellcaster of any sort....so i stick with the simple ways of  my heratage.....The celts and the saxons "is it friend,no, then its enemy, can i eat it after killing it,yes, then its food, no, then its enemy, does it have sword, yes, Kill and take sword and shove it into them, does it throw spells, no, dont worry about it then, if yes, KILL IT NOW AND USE ITS OWN LIMBS FOR A BLUDGENING TOOL, if all else fails get pissed to high hell and slaughter EVERYTHING

I find it easy to cross classes though. Healer isn't my favorite (destruction wizard is), but I've successfully played all sorts of classes. Each class has it's own learning curve, that's all

to be fair your most likely right on the cross classing if you can do it right...which i cant....so i perfer to go with pure builds with what im best with which is usualy eather a monk *snickers at the thought of cant be touched after awhile* or a barbarianin which case the latter i can just desimate my enemies and just look at my damage with the "tis a flesh wound" attitude

on that note im starting back up on DDO *since i cant find DnD players nearby to have that game night* and sadly im stuck on how to spend my enhanment points TAT dont know if i should go frenzied berserker or go with Ravanger
