Description The spite muse popped up a while back when I was looking at the new Flash run. What would the younger versions of these characters think of their older selves?

Impulse and Inertia belong to DC.

Sorry for the reupload. Looks like dA was having server issues the first time I put this up.

What is the story about Inertia? Great picture!

I'm probably the only one who thinks like this, but-

Inertia Superior, Impulse inferior.

Gotta thank Soundwave for that line

Why not both? They're both funny in their own way.

Yes, but if you look at the comics (Impulse's sereis) and look at their fights you'll see that Impulse never beat him on his own. He always had some outside help to win.

Inertia is the only clone I can think of (other than Galatea from JLU) that surpassed the original.

That's not what I meant. I assumed you were talking about their personalities, not skill level.

Fan01 In reply to Hyperion2009 [2011-05-10 17:05:43 +0000 UTC]

I see, my bad. Their personalities pretty much sure inertia being better too. Impulse does things that are just stupid. People want to say he's just impulsive, but they're really just stupid. Inertia thinks things through.

Sorry if i sound like I'm ranting, it's hard to convey tone over the computer for me. What do you think about them?

Bart's supposed to be the epitome of an ADHD-addled speedster; bad at planning, very reckless, but also intelligent in his own way and better at improvisation (he tends to come up with solutions no-one else would even think of, and - as stated in Impulse #1 - he learned how to read and write English fluently within a few hours whereas for most of us, it would take years). He's also the more sociable of the two, and very slow to anger.

Thad's much better at planning and intellectual pursuits and I think he's at his happiest focusing on such (I see him as something of a technology geek; an amusing image to me, at least ). But he's also much quicker to anger (admittedly very good at controlling himself on the surface, but if you hit a button he'll just lose it), and prefers to...how do I explain this...set a mental barrier around himself. He shies away from social contact when it's unnecessary because he's scared of being used as a pawn again (the purpose he was created for), and his snarky and condescending attitude is a reflection of that fear. Whereas Bart clearly has ADHD, I'd probably list Thad as having avoidant or borderline personality disorder (or possibly a combination of the two).

Yin and yang, basically...I've been obsessed with duality and opposites lately.

Like I said, I like them both in my own way, and I see parts of myself in both of them.

My view of the boys is mostly based on a combination of the Impulse series, the original Young Justice series, and this particular fanfic series (yes, fanfic, but I feel it represents them much better than current mainstream universe).

I knew Bart had ADHD but not that he was good at improvising. I have an issue of Teen Titans where he first switched to Kid Flash and read all the book in a library at such speed that people thought the place was haunted. I thought speedsters forgot what they learned a few hours later for some reason if they learned it that way though? I guess that was retconned out.

Thad was made to grow at a normal rate and that's how he learned to plan better. Like that picture of him. It's funny. Thad can learn to control his temper if he wasn't constantly called "inferior" JUST for being a clone. Wonder what Superboy would say if he was in the room? Inertia being secretly afraid of being used as a tool can explain why he set that mental barrier around himself. He probably only really needed someone to stretch a friendly hand out to him and he might of become a hero instead of what did happen to him.

Yin and yang and duality are things I'm interested in as well. Want to talk more in our notes so we don't take up more space here?

PS Thanks for the links.

Bart has photographic memory, unlike the others; I think it was hinted at in one of his earlier issues, but I can't recall where exactly, but yes, it was only brought to the forefront when he turned into Kid Flash (I think it's less "growth" and more "complete transformation", but that's another story).

He probably only really needed someone to stretch a friendly hand out to him and he might of become a hero instead of what did happen to him.

Yeah, that's what the fanfics are about. Chapters 10 and 17 (first one), I feel, are good examples of the "helping hand" theory.

As for the Superboy passage:

Thad entered the kitchen and treated Kon to an especially dirty glare. "You're still here?"

"I just wanted to see your sunny face again," Kon replied as cheerfully as he could, "My day couldn't start without a burst of joy from the ever-inspiring Inertia." He was unfazed by the disgusted sneer Thad treated him to. Kon's voice resumed his normal tone, "Seriously. Don't you have any modes other than "up yours" and "sideways"? You're going to die a lonely virgin if you keep this up. Yeah, I get that your childhood was stolen by a madman and all that, but you're preaching to the choir here. Dude, get over it. We did."

Thad's glare darkened and he clenched his fists. Lunging forward with a punch, he stopped just short of striking Kon. Shaking with fury, Thad backed away and left the kitchen. Kon snickered and finished making the bagel sandwiches. "He almost hurt himself, there."

Definitely something he takes to heart.

Yeah, feel free to PM me whenever, although I generally prefer to answer in my own time and not "immediately".

I think I remember reading that too somewhere, but like you I'm not sure.

Sounds like an interesting story and touches on what I said. You're talking about the "Reset" story right? Could I get those links again please?

Conner had a point here, but he gave it the wrong way. Didn't use the right tone or words. Can't the Flashs (and the Zooms by extension) hurt kryptonians by running and hitting them really fast?

I'll do that, and take your time. I'm the reverse and try to get back as soon as I can.

Hyperion2009 In reply to Fan01 [2011-05-13 03:42:38 +0000 UTC]

This is pre-03 Superboy, hence the abrasive tone. No "Conner" here. I actually prefer this version of him, there's a kind of charm in his brazenness which appeals to me, and it's not in the post-03 version.

Also, the boys (and all speedsters) lose their powers for the duration of the second story, hence the stopping short.

Stories are in chronological order; the third's stalled at chapter 3, and I don't know if the author is going to update again...

Reset!
Reset! Blackout
Reset! Gemini Ascendant

I liked 90s Superboy too. He and Knockout were a lot of fun in his series. He may have been a bit of s jerk at times, but he was still friendly and considerate during that time too.

Ah, so that's why Thad stopped short. Thanks.

Thanks for the links. I'll check the series out and let you know. Appreciate it.
