yeah the new design looks better,but I like the old style of drawing also.I can guarantee in 20 years they will be redrawn again to fit the anime of that era's styleΒ

I love both of the designs. Maybe they will have a new style in Dragon Ball Z: Battle of Gods. Are they trying to create it to look more like an anime or more cartoon-like?

No I think they generally base the style off what is trendy at the moment.Akira's original character designs were more focused on sharp edges and facial structures,but now Anime is alot different and focuses more on curved edges and roundness.I'ts hard to explain but easy to illustrate.If you look at old animes like cowboybebop it can be compared to the style of the older dragonball-z but now new dragonball designs like BOG and even as early as the Yo!Goku and friends return are more based on the styles of Naruto and whatever else kids are into these days. That is a good example! I never watched Naruto because I always thought that Naruto was almost a copy of Dragon Ball Z. Dragon Ball Z came out somewhere I think in the 1980's or 1990's and Naruto came out a few years later. I just looked up Cowboy Bebop and it looks very similar to the style of the early Dragon Ball series. I mostly grew up with the Dragon Ball Z series instead of Dragon Ball itself. You can see a big difference in comparing the styles together. In Yo!Goku and friends return and BOG both have a lot more lighting on the picture compared to the old DBZ.

I've never seen Β Naruto either I'm just familiar with the style of art that is used,I like the new style,it's easier to draw and copy which is probably why it is used now,also it gives a kind of 'cuteness' to the art,whereas the older style was more set on realism to a degree,bone structure was more apparent (like what I showed you) and was less tame than the new art.I'm not complaining about it because thats just how animes work,they structure themselves on what is popular at the time

That's true. Like the new style makes it look more like a cartoon instead of realism. Why do you think that they would do that? Maybe to make it look more like what Dragon Ball Z should: a cartoon/ anime? That's my opinion on it anyway.
