I have chosen "red" ending. And I am extremely happy about that, because I believe in indoctrination theorem, so the Reapers are destroyed, and all syntetic life still exist. And EDI is alive!
But still, nice job with this.

I did choose it at first, but then I realized. . . They were forcing us to kill all Geth, possibly Quarians due to their suits, EDI, stranding a lot of dextro based people possibly somewhere they would starve to death, or stranding people away from populated areas . . . The list goes on and on. If I have to choose, it ends up being between control and synthesis. I usually stop playing just before that mission though, just to save myself the need to choose between three crud endings.

VashtaNereda In reply to AniDragon [2013-07-16 11:44:05 +0000 UTC]

. . . Oh my god. I hadn't even known that existed. I had to google that, then see the youtube vids of it. . . If I ever meet the person that made that mod, I will give them hugs unto eternity for fixing that blasted ending that made me -not- want to play any ending whatsoever. O_O

Thank you a million for actually mentioning it!

AniDragon In reply to VashtaNereda [2013-07-18 00:26:39 +0000 UTC]

No prob! I'm fine with the ending myself (having been a fan of Shakespearean tragedies for the past 10 years), but I can see why some people wouldn't like it, so it's cool that someone took the time to make that mod.

VashtaNereda In reply to AniDragon [2013-07-18 19:20:48 +0000 UTC]

This might sound weird but. . . It's not that Shepard died that bothers me so much - I'm used to the heroes dying, and there can be new heroes. It's that so many people get stuck in the crossfire - ie: the Geth and EDI for sure with the destroy ending; abandoning god knows how many people to starve or die of exposure with ALL the endings due to the mass relays being destroyed - that bothers me so damn much. One person is one thing, but more than that? The AIs are people, too, dammit :\

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

AniDragon In reply to VashtaNereda [2013-07-19 05:03:38 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I know exactly what you mean. I was devastated when I found out that to destroy the Reapers I had to sacrifice EDI and the Geth, especially after working so hard to end the war between the Geth and the Quarians. But I can appreciate something that made me feel that devastation. Part of it might be that I'm an amateur writer myself, and have had moments of "make everything hurt" in my own writing. But I also know those kinds of endings aren't for everyone.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

VashtaNereda In reply to AniDragon [2013-07-20 10:52:29 +0000 UTC]

It's just. . . Couldn't the Catalyst - as an AI of some sort or something - just honed in on the Reaper FoF tags? Its what they do to control them, isn't it, or do we also control all AI instead of only the Reapers? -scowls-

this is a devastating piece. I've only played through once, so far, and I had to go with Synthesis. I just couldn't do this ^. However, I do want to do it again and pick Destroy once, just to be safe IN CASE BioWare changes their mind a few years down the road and brings Shepard's story back. At least she'd be alive, then. (Hopefully.) But my canon says that even if Destroy is picked, there would be a way to get EDI and the Geth back online, eventually.

Beautiful work, here.

I chose destroying the Reapers on both playthroughs, and I'd do it again. I had one job, and one job only; to ensure the destruction of the Reapers, and I intend to complete my mission, no matter what. I won't let the loss of a few computers, however advanced, get in the way of that.

0raichu100 In reply to Zarumee [2013-07-13 15:19:06 +0000 UTC]

"A few computers"? AI life goes far beyond mere computing.

A Shepard who is willing to commit genocide to ensure a peace that can be found through other means is not a hero - s/he's a ruthless murderer. "Mission before all else" kind of falls flat when you lose sight of the greater goal. The greatest goal was not destruction of the reapers - it was peace in the galaxy, an end to which destruction of the reapers was, for most of the trilogy, the only known means. When other means became available and Shepard refuses to consider them in favor of the original mission, s/he ceases to be the savior of the galaxy and turns into a monster. Peace is achieved, but the cost is astronomical and, worse, totally unnecessary.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

Zarumee In reply to 0raichu100 [2013-07-13 23:27:27 +0000 UTC]

It's not genocide.
However advanced an AI might be, it's still just computing. Quantum computing or not.

The geth aren't alive. They don't feel fear, rage, happiness, jealousy... All they are, are programs being processed by a CPU. A very advanced CPU (or several per platform), but that's all they are. No more, no less.

And "it was peace in the galaxy" is just wrong. The destruction of the Reapers has been the goal of the entire trilogy. We find out about them and how they threaten the galaxy in the first game, the mainplot doesn't go anywhere in the second, and we stop them in the third.
There will never peace in the entire galaxy, there will ALWAYS be upstarters.

Besides, the geth are just robots. They can be rebuilt, if the quarians still have blueprints.

Machines are just machines. They can be repaired. If not, they are still just machines. No matter how you would like them not to be, they are not real beings.
