Description Model is Nicole although I did not (deliberately) create a close likeness. This is at four hours of modeling in terra cotta, still wet - I think that I will keep the 'rough' style. Size is about 14" high, 16" wide.

very expressive, Barrie. the textures of the surface are excellent! would be a wonderful piece to be cast in bronze with the patina darker in the deeper part of the textures and the bronze shining through! But as well as it is a wonderful piece!

Thank you Michael, I am flattered with your comment and suggestion to cast this piece. I've never ventured into having pieces cast and forged in bronze, perhaps I need to get over this mental (and financial?) barrier. Barrie

I can understand that. Especially the financial issue. Nevertheless I have experienced that the foundry process was so very interesting as well as the result. Especially when the surfaces are rough. You see the marks of tools made to work clay in solid metal. In my case it were chisel marks from stone tools in bronze. This is a stunning new phenomenon; at least it was for me. Cheers, Michael!

lovely as always. I enjoy seeing these works in progress.

I may take a sculpture class next semester, although I doubt we'll do anything on this scale for a while.

I like the roughness too, but it will look altogether different once you dry, add a finish and fire it. So happy to see you producing art constantly. The way the model is looking down add's to the strength of the piece. Yes she quite strong looking as if she carry's much on her shoulders. Beautiful BB! Do you cook as well???

I cook almost every day of my life. I do enjoy eating out occasionally, but it is usually when someone else amkes the plans. I love to blend food styles from all over the world. Always try to use fresh herbs, veggies and meats... It is easier to do here in Australia. We live in a town that supports local everything. Even my eggs are from a chick I know personally...

You actually should plan a trip before we sell where we are now. You would love it...Flights are currently around $1200 R/T because Qantas and Air New Zealand are in competition. The door is truly always open. Would love to meet you in person, and your wife.Lots of art to be made here!!!! Yes ... the food is wonderful!

Yes, Australia and N Zealand are high on our wanta-go list, and meeting you and Beau certainly a big big plus. However, our next big trip is taking our G-daughter to Israel after her Bar Mitzvah this summer. But after that, who knows?? s BB

just curious, what is underneath the clay?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BRipin In reply to jjackm [2011-01-24 23:15:19 +0000 UTC]

Just a pipe and wire armature some foam blocks, and about 35 pounds of clay.
