Description A kind of an experiment I made - traditionally digital, digitally traditional. Layers drawn by hand on individual papers, scanned, post-processed.

Cool trick, next time try to use solid wood block, or glass, those strokes might come out in a positive way. Whole piece is explicitly good with one "but" which is this post process - the amount of light from a center part is annoying and way to exposed. Besides very inspiring, and new. Good job

BrocX In reply to pawelshogun [2015-02-07 16:50:58 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I wasn't too sure about the lighting intensity at the middle part myself, but then it kind of seemed to me that it emphasizes the contrast of darkness and uncertainity around versus the destination, hence the title, in the middle. Probably overdone it a tad, yeah. Another one is on the way, but so far I somewhat don't like it... know the feeling when what you create is quite different from what you actually wanted to make? Yeah, that's precisely the one I am having with this next piece.

You need to keep up dont think about details - this light for example, doesnt make your hard work to dissapear. Stay optimistic, no matter what

I can't even describe how much I love this. I love how much depth and detail you've put in this. Blurring the foreground and background to give the appearance of a photographic image is perfect. You've unsaturated the places that need to be left in shadows and saturated places where they're in the light. And on top of all that, It makes me think about what is going on. What is this magical place? What is she reaching for? It's almost too surreal. Keep this style. I like it too much.

Great job dude.

My original idea was that she was reaching for the fruit of hapiness, hence the light, but in the end I decided not to spill that out and just let everybody see what they want to see . Thanks a lot mate, I will be sure to have more coming, heh .

I do the same thing with my artwork. I like not telling people much about my artwork and why I do the things I do.... just to see if others interpret the way I see it. and I will be checking in on you!

That looks very interesting, - like a part of some paper book with 'moving pictures', but lightened with some magic. This picture looks like a picture from the abstract animation film: depth-of-field effect & shading of the front & back layers makes an illusion of moving into the picture, while the girls' figure moves aside in a little jump. Great job, really.
(Though I think this picture would look a bit... 'richier' if it would have a bit more panoramic proportions, you know, - maybe with some more space on it's right side. Girl moves to the right and we'd like to see where she'll step in the next second - even though it's our imagination and this picture is static, not animation)

BrocX In reply to nicolaykoriagin [2015-02-01 20:18:18 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! And I love you added a critic comment as well - although in this particular case the truth is I simply ran out of space on the paper . Was drawing on an A3 and that's pretty much all the space I had at my disposal. But hey, like you said, why not try at least A2 next time for more space, right ?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

nicolaykoriagin In reply to BrocX [2015-02-01 20:26:58 +0000 UTC]

Oh, right, right. I didn't thought it was just about the paper, - you wrote about digital post-processing and I've thought - well, maybe you still had some parts of the picture hidden out of the picture's border?
A2 sounds like a good idea, - but this could be a bit more difficult to work on such a big surface, if I'm not mistaken? A4 = 1/2 of A3 and A3 = 1/2 of A2... my little sister (15 y.o.) draw on A2 sometimes. Takes a lot of time.

BrocX In reply to nicolaykoriagin [2015-02-01 21:15:53 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, the time taken kind of rises exponentially. If you check Resonance (the one piece I have as my "title" picture on my profile), that thing is four A1s glued together, adding up to like 2x1 meters. That linework alone took me about 60 hours, if I were to colour it and shade it, it would be hundreds of hours easily. And that is just one layer, I need like six or seven for this kind of pop-up book style, so yeah, I guess I cannot really invest that much time into it before I am a famous artist (ha ha) and am sure that people will actually buy it and "make it worth the while" ).

1x A2 size COULD work, though . Right now I have another piece in progress already on A3s, but the next one could be larger .

What I love most about this piece is that it reminds me of
a pop up book, I can see the movements in my head as I look at this!

It's a very whimsical type piece and that light source is executed quite nicely!

Oh, thanks for brightening up my morning . The big dream is to actually make a game with these graphics, me drawing them - so who knows, maybe in the unspecified future, the movement will be there .

Thanks again, glad you like it <3

I really enjoy the ambience in this one, wow !
It looks like, you know, those scenes made with paper, put one in front of each other, it gives a 3D effect.
I saw many drawings doing this kind of scenes, but yours makes it especially realistic in this way !

BrocX In reply to anya-silvermoon [2015-01-29 15:41:06 +0000 UTC]

Thanks ! That's basically what I did, too, drew the layers on paper by hand, then put them together

anya-silvermoon In reply to BrocX [2015-01-29 17:12:35 +0000 UTC]

Sorry, I didn't explained well xD Since I have read your description I understood that, but sometimes even with the technique you have used it, it doesn't look so realistic. It doesn't look like you had scanned papers, it makes just the same effect like if you took a photo of a pop-up book. I "feel" the space, more than in a regular drawing. I know that it was the meaning ahah, I just mean that it's well done.

This is a purely magnificent piece~ Not only does it have a brilliant 3D aspect to it like you would see on a performance stage, but the mixture of traditional art and digital enhancement gives this piece a purely magical atmosphere~ The colours work perfectly with the dark contrasting lines and it is beautifully framed by the foreground's nature~
