Description I've always toyed with working on a fantasy-based tale, though ideas I've had have come and gone but recently one has gotten lodged inside my noggin and so I thought I'd run with it and see where it takes me.  Have to admit, quite enjoying the liberty that the genre provides, working out maps and histories and magic.

So anyway, on with the intelligent/sentient races:

Centaur: A proud but cautious race, wary of humans and fierce rivals of the Salamander.  Nomadic by nature, they prefer to run free across great plains, though there are a few that have decided to make more permanent settlements.
Cyclops: Quite unpredictable, they tend to stay out of events of other races, though have been known to choose the side of whoever offers the greatest rewards.
Dragon: (not pictured) One of the oldest races, they are awe-inspiring and terrifying in equal measure. Exceptionally long-lived they are wise and knowledgeable on much that has befallen the lands over the eons.
Druid: Though technically 100% human, they are born with a natural talent for accessing magical energy.  This has made them a target of a few of the more vehement priests looking to scare their flock with exaggerated tale of Druid sorcery.
Dwarf: Industrious and hard-working, whether in mines, fields or shops, they are hard negotiators and pride themselves on their high quality goods.  They have a long-standing (mutual) hatred with the Goblins.
Elf: Like the Dragons they are ancient and wise, though they tend to keep that wisdom to themselves, especially from humans.  As a race they are all beautiful, agile and far stronger than they appear.  They have a complicated history with the Vampyr.
Fae: A misunderstood race, most others cannot understand their language, so believe them to be just an animal, but the likes of the Dragons and Elf know better.  When encountered, they can be helpful or mischievous.
Faun: Playful, friendly though somewhat skittish, they are well known for integrating well among the other races and well regarded for their merriment and mastery of wine.
Gargoyle: A proud and honourable race of warriors, their arrival on the battlefield summons the end of their adversaries attempt to make war.  Their skin is said to be as tough as stone, making them very difficult to injure.
Goblin: Nasty, greedy, vicious creatures, they are scavengers and known for making trouble at every encounter.  They share a mutual hatred with the Dwarves.
Human: One of the younger races, they have shown considerable potential (if they could only stop fighting among themselves), and have a knack for building communities wherever they are.
Nereid: Commonly called "Merfolk", they inhabit the seas and oceans and are highly alluring to sailors and travellers.  They do come onto beaches or seashore rocky outcroppings on occasion.
Ogre: Brutal and savage, they are perhaps the most dangerous race as once the Ogre horde rampages all that's before them will be destroyed and/or devoured.
Orc: An offshoot of the Ogres, known for their greater intelligence over their 'cousins', though not as strong or devastating--though they should never be underestimated.
Salamander: Nicknamed "Lizardmen" by many, they are an almost constant threat towards humans, and other races that cross them.  Devious and cunning, they are excellent strategists when it comes to the art of warfare.
Selkie: Playful, inquisitive and energetic, they are equally at home on land as they are in water.  Whilst Nereid tend to inhabit the deeper waters, Selkie can always be found near shores.
Sylph: Forthright and passionate, they care greatly for the natural environment and will take up arms to defend it.  Their wings may look very delicate but they can fly faster than Dragons of Gargoyles.
Vampyr: Suave and deadly, they are said to be the last of the true demons that walk the earth and are feared by all (despite being very few in number).  They are bitter rivals of the Elf, though why seems to have been lost to time.
Wulver: Despite being a gentle and courteous race, they are near extinction, with only a few packs left.  For those that encounter this wolf-life race, they will be extended aid should it be needed.
