Number One's name is Morgan (Star Trek: New Frontier). She is actually Immortal, and now in the main computer of the Galaxy - class USS Excalibur (after her body was killed in an encounter with the godlike Apollo's still living relatives).
She is also the mother of Robin Lefler (Wesley Crusher 's one time love interest).

That's Peter David's interpretation, I thought I'd go with something else entirely.
In my main continuity, it follows more of the Early Voyages comics with Number One's real nam being E. Robbins. After her two tours on the Enterprise she was next in line for command before being offered the first brand new Titan-Class (styled after the proposed redesign for "Planet of the Titans", which is where the name also came from) ship, one designed for long-term exploratory missions beyond any other previous ship had gone before.
After seven years commanding the Titan she was placed in command of a classified mission studying the first concrete evidence of an Iconian outpost in a remote region of the Alpha Quadrant, before she and her research team were classed as KIA when the systems star exploded (in actuality the 300+ people of her expedition used a functional Gateway to escape the planet and wound up lost on an Iconian station).

Interesting story. I like how the Iconian's have been included, an intriguing powerful race that only featured (not in person) in a handful of episodes.
I apologise if I insulted you in anyway, I did not mean to cast doubt on your work.
