Description I love dinosaurs. Always have, always will. This piece was pretty straightforward... It's just a pen and ink drawing on illustration board with a combination of watercolors and acrylic paints for all of the color, just going back and forth, using whichever one worked best in which area. And for all the purists out there, yes, I know they are calling this animal "Apatosaurus" these days. But he was called "Brontosaurus" when I was a kid. That was the name I first knew him by, and the name I fell in love with. So that's what I still call him.

This picture looks really, really familiar to me. I swear it looks like something from a book I had as a kid. o_0Β

Not surprising, this image was published in a couple of books and magazines, roughly between 1997-2005.

Weirdly enough, this is incredibly accurate.

Yeah, well, Brontosaurus is now a valid genus. they now refer to it as Brontosaurus excelsus. and it lived right alongside Apatosaurus. how weird is that?

It is sort of cool.

Have you ever thought of doing your own Prehistoric comic story?Β  I can envision you coming up with a cool "Jungle Girl" character who transforms into a Smilodon-Woman during the full moon or in moments of extreme danger!Β  That would rock.

As for me drawing a comic about jungle girls and dinosaurs, I can only say... "Nah..."
Not that it wouldn't be fun... But it just seems to me, that too many other guys have already done that subject matter with way more enthusiasm than I would ever have for it. So, no plans for anything like that on the near-horizon.

However, you may be interested to know, that from 1994 - 1996 I wrote and drew a comic called "Tales From Blue Soggoth" about astronauts from Earth who crash land on a prehistoric planet. No "jungle girls" in sight, but it featured scantily clad space girls and lots of dinosaurs. And aliens, and other monsters. You can see a few images of that comic on the "Other Comics" page at my official website. Just click this link and scroll down to "Tales From Blue Soggoth"... www.cryptlogic.net/othercomics…

Brontosaurus definitely sounds better. Too bad it's considered scientifically redundant. Apatosaurus just doesn't have that same ring to it.

It wasnt just a name change. it was an accidental placement of a brachiosaurus skull on a diplodocus body.

If that's the name it had for 60+ years, I say stick with it. Who's going to re-dub all those Flintstones stones episodes? : )
I love the view of the stars by his head. Nice touch!

The perspective is the best bit with this one. The fact that the viewer is looking UP from the ground at the Bronto, it makes ya feel small, which you should when looking at a big 'ol Bronto.

Thats what he should be called.
I totally agree with you on that one.

Amazing picture, you captured him really well! <3

Very cool stuff...I love the low angle. The brontosaurus was always a favorite dino of mine, too (along with trilobites, which are another thing entirely).
