Description
This handsome fellow was drawn for the book "SCARED!" that I co-authored and illustrated with Steve Miller. [link]As you've probably already guessed his appearance was slightly based on John Merrick, the Elephant Man. Although I admit my depiction of him was a little less sympathetic than most.

I remember seeing this in "Scared!"...I never saw the plain ink version, though. Somehow, it looks creepier this way. Awesome job

Thank you! Yeah I like it in B&W cause you can see all the nasty textures better. But for that book, the publisher needed it in color. It's one of the laws of commercial art, color art sells like hot cakes and black and white art gets mostly ignored. Kinda too bad, but that's just the way it is.

It reminds me for some reason of the otto sump storyline of Judge Dredd.. where he sells ugly cream. The style and damn ugliness are very similar.

The colored version was fun too. I loved coloring all of Bryan's mutants and zombies in Scared. How often do you get to render boils and bruises or seeping puss? How about all on the same character?

I forgot to add I watched Robocop for inspiration on how to render this guy. You know the scene where the guy gets totally drenched in the toxic goo before getting hit by a car? Good times...good times.
