Description
My tribute to one of the greatest horror films ever made, John Carpenter's 1982 version of "The Thing".This is easily Carpenter's best film. All the elements - the writing, direction, acting, special effects, and music work together perfectly. It's got the fear of isolation AND paranoia, and some of the most brilliantly insane horror sequences ever put on film - thanks to Rob Bottin who, like Carpenter, was also doing the best work of his whloe career here. A perfect movie by any standard.

I don't know about "best", since The Fog was pretty damn good too. Still, to this day JC's version scares the crap out of me. Kinda wish Blair Thing was incorporated, but love that you got both of the Norris Things, and amazing work on the Palmer Thing! Always thought that Palmer's suffered because of the pacing of the scene; it certainly didn't get as much attention as the other forms, but it was one of the scariest forms, imo.
Anyhoo, rambling aside, I love it! Amazing work!

To be eaten and then replicated. Such a... Dreadful way to die.
The 1980's "The Thing" was much better than the newer prequel. Not because it came first, but because it actually made one who watched it feel as if this creature could actually exist. No fancy lights, no alien tech, and no telling who was the next to croak (I found it terribly obvious in the prequel).
As a comment on the artwork, I don't see anything I cannot compliment, except for the dog-head. I know this creature was horrid to set sight upon, but the dog, as far as I remember, did not have eyes (correct me if I am wrong). Also, wasn't it a green-ish colour?

I liked the prequel a lot, actually. It surprised me by how good it was, and how in-touch with Carpenter's film it was.
And to answer your question - yes, the mutated dog did have eyes, and it was a meaty, brownish-pink color.

Of course! Finally watched it for the first time in my life the other night. It was great, much better than modern horror. Very well made, and I'm a good film critic!

That, and Bram Stroker's Dracula. And, if I can find it anywhere, I may be adding Thing 2011 to that list.

Excuse me, but would you please tell me what "The Thing" is about, please? I saw a DVD box of it up at a shop, but have no idea what it's about.

"Excuse me, but would you please tell me what "The Thing" is about, please? I saw a DVD box of it up at a shop, but have no idea what it's about."
It's the second of three adaptations of the novel WHO GOES THERE. The story's about a shapeshifting alien who gets discovered in the Antarctic and proceeds to possess and destroy the military personnel who found it, causing paranoia and mistrust among the survivors. (Because of special effects limitations in the 1950s, the first film version turned the alien into a vampiric plant creature. The other two films go with the shapeshifter angle.)
