Description
My tribute to one of the greatest horror films ever made, John Carpenter's 1982 version of "The Thing".This is easily Carpenter's best film. All the elements - the writing, direction, acting, special effects, and music work together perfectly. It's got the fear of isolation AND paranoia, and some of the most brilliantly insane horror sequences ever put on film - thanks to Rob Bottin who, like Carpenter, was also doing the best work of his whloe career here. A perfect movie by any standard.

That bastard scared the hell outta me when I was little and still does today. x.x Hate the dog scene but LOVE how you're pretty much mastered all the monsters...or monster?

Wow this poster is great
Viscerally great
Would you consider drawing the black and white Howard Hawks film
"The Thing From Another World"?
It would be interesting to see

Yeah that would be fun to do.
Maybe when I have time!
I'm swamped these days.
But it is a good suggestion.
Oh and thanks for your kind words on this illustration!

badass.
one of my most favorite horror films. lovely drawing. also makes it noticeable why The Thing is such a great monster, each of its forms is really uniquely hideous, which you captured very well.

This could easily be a poster for the actual movie! The characters' expressions are perfect as are the creatures (what a savage look that dog thing has). As for the movie itself, 1982 "The Thing" is one of my favourite sci-fi movies along with the "Alien".

You know, I both love and hate this movie: I love how it is a brilliant horror film, with a solid plot, good acting and absolutely terrifying special effects.
But, the latter is what I don't like. I am literally scared shitless of this film, no other movie character terrifies me more than the Thing.
Probably the scariest thing about the Thing, in my opinion, is how we "think" we understand how it works, but it is still extremely alien and more like a cosmic abomination. It can infect other beings almost instantaneously, and doesn't care how many limbs it needs or how much blood and flesh it spills to transform. The fact it can actually absorb other organisms right on the spot is even worse (as I noticed in the kennel scene). Carpenter certainly made a nightmare beast that really can only be called a "Thing"; definitely one of the most creative monstrosities in film!
That was a little long, but I've always wanted to discuss this film in-depth. Props to capturing the sheer horror of the Things, Mr. Baugh.

Now that I remember, was the first thing we see in the film actually absorbing the other dogs? It was hard to tell, in between the reactions of the cast, it happened really quickly.
God damn, that was the sickest part of the film. Those poor dogs...
