Description This summer I've been doing a whole series of "Monsters and Girls" illustrations, and selling them as original art pieces on the Store Page of my official website. Here's a new one I decided to color.

This drawing, and a few other original "monsters and girls" art pieces, are available for sale at my website store.

the zombie in the center looks like somebody that is probably wishing he had better luck catching girls lol

This piece actually really...interesting...what are going to do to her?

These guys were so excited to catch a victim that they couldn't resist proudly showing her off. As soon as they get over their excitement they probably intend to do what zombies always do... bite her to pieces and eat her flesh and drink her blood. But if she wakes up and runs away they will probably just chase her around some more. haha.

Lol, sounds like fun. I'll take her bikini before they tear it up first tho, lol.

The one in the middle kind of looks like a mix between Swamp Thing and the two beach zombies from Creepshow

The brainy one reminds me a bit of the Tar Man. All of them look great and slimy. I especially like that they didn't kill the girl just captured her which makes it unique as far as current zombie art goes. It makes me think they got plans for her and they sure as hell can't be good ones.

They probably intend to eat her on the beach.
Just wanted to get her out of that seawater first. Too salty.
However - sand adds a pleasing layer of crunchy glaze.

She has a chance to escape if she wakes up in time--they're likely to fight over her as she's too slender and petite to share!

This is awesome! Love the expressions on the zombies' faces, especially the one holding the girl. He has a funny run-of-the-mill, almost bored look. As if he's thinking, "OK, it's another beautiful, bikini-clad babe. So what? It's our 10th catch this week!" Now as for me, keep it going!

As always, you are most welcome. I love the old E.C. - Warren horror comics of the forties/fifties/sixties/etc., not to mention old horror movie posters [always with a monster or villain scaring a scantily clad woman], and your art captures those moods perfectly. Plus, your work kind of looks like Bernie Wrightson's work, but still remains original! KEEP 'EM COMIN'!

BryanBaugh In reply to Brian-OConnell [2014-08-25 17:43:04 +0000 UTC]

Haha, thank you ever so much (once again) for your very kind words. You hit the nail on the head. Old monster comic books, old horror movie posters, (and the movies themselves of course, geez you should see my overflowing dvd and blu ray collection, I think I've pretty much got the entire history of horror films in my living room!) but yeah, those are the things that always inspired me. And yes, of course, my favorite types of horror image were always those that combined the pretty girl with the horrible ugly monster. What can I say, I have a weakness for the old "beauty and the beast" scenario.

You mentioned Bernie Wrightson. I grew up on his work. I think he was the first artist whose work hit me so strongly that I actually flipped to the front of the book to read the credits and learn his name. That was when I was 9 years old. Been a loyal fan ever since. In the early 2000's I had the pleasure of getting to know Bernie a little bit. His art studio was about a 20 minute drive away from my apartment and he actually invited me over 2 or 3 times. I would always go over there with the mindset that I would not stay too long, didn't want to waste his time... But he would be so inviting and relaxed that he would just hang out and talk about movies and stuff. He had the biggest collection of Frankenstein Monster toys I have ever seen (and I thought I was a rabid monster toy collector) lining the shelves all the way around his studio. And I saw a surprising number of paintings and illustrations just stacked around the room, that I have never seen published before or since, in any media. I commented on this to him, and he said something to the effect of, "yeah a lot of that stuff just hasn't come out" or something maddeningly casual like that. I'm telling you, I've seen this with my own eyes - the man is an art machine and has produced a lot of work that has never seen print. I only wish I had taken a few photos or something. But I was trying not to be a complete fanboy, you know.
Anyway, for a living legend, Bernie is one of the nicest human beings you will ever meet. He was so utterly kind and generous to a nobody like me. I would not go so far as to say we became friends, but he was definitely a good acquaintance for a few years there. I'm sure that in his mind, I was just one of a million young artist/ fans who he has been kind enough to spend time with, over the course of his career. But yeah I must tell you it was a really amazing privilege to just get to know one of my lifelong heroes and "artistic fathers". Anyway he recently moved to Texas and I haven't heard from him since. I hope it was just the shoddy California economy that scared him away, and not me! Haha.

You're welcome. I have a thing for the Beauty and the Beast scenario, too. I'm sure you have much more than I have, but I do have all the Poe films, the real classic Universal movies, and pretty much every movie based on The Phantom of the Opera.

Wow. Its amazing that you knew such a legend. And I cannot believe that so much work is going unpublished! We need to see more of his genius!

I'm sorry if this comment is short and rather stupid, but I didn't know what to say. You are an awesome artist. Thank you for publishing these.
