Description I've been etch-a-sketching regularly for about a year and a half now. The entire first year I spent etching cityscapes and landmarks, figuring that would be my specialty, to separate me from all the other (seven) etch-a-sketch artists out there. I was often asked all the while to do people, so I thought as an exercise in learning to do portrait work, I would sketch my friend's facebook profile pictures, so that way they could get a fun pic out of it and I could get some practice. It took me about 6 months to finish 50 pocket portraits, the last one being a self-portrait. Each sketch took around an hour to complete, but some could take as many as 10 tries. A few people people I attempted remain in a "deleted scenes" folder.

It was fun posting them in groups of 2 or 3 at a time and watching the "likes" and comments roll in. When you etch 25% of your friends, I'm pretty sure the other 75% notice - I probably I left a few people out who wanted one, but people need to speak up! Instead they give me a hard time when I see them in person. Thanks so much! Practice your etching!!

My friend Kristina was really happy with it, she used it as her profile for months. Her original photo was so much fun and full of life that it was an obvious choice to include in the project. Thanks so much!

I think my friends got a kick out of it, I'm sure there's a few who are wondering why they didn't get one - but I don't have time to etch 234 people But I did sketch everyone who asked. Thanks again!

Your friends better use your etch as a profile picture. I know I would.

Yes, most of my friends used these as their profile pictures after I posted them. There was a period where it was probably unavoidable for anyone networked around me. It was fun to see everyone enjoy it.

Over the six months I was doing them, a lot of my friends used these, probably 60-70%. Not all of them came out fantastic, so I wouldn't expect them all to get used. I etched every friend who asked in the comments. It was fun for people, I think.

Patience is a big part, it's easy to stop caring and try to go fast, which ruins everything. Thanks
