Description
The city of Philadelphia. I took extra care when etching City Hall, as it's my favorite landmark of the city. I documented and posted the progress of this piece on my blog (bryanetch.blogspot.com ), which can be found in the archives (2010).Thanks so much for all the kind words and to those who helped make this my first Daily Deviation!

lol, the clouds in the upper left and lower central remind me of maps of Asia/Eurasia... and then there's a random polar bear on the left... were those intentional?

No, I always go random style with my clouds. To hear people can "see things" in the cloud means I must have done it right. Appreciate the comment!

Cityscapes generally take me between 12-25 hours. This one took 25hrs. About and hour a day for 2-3 weeks. Thanks!

bryanetch In reply to WhoDoesntLoveCosplay [2011-08-25 14:54:18 +0000 UTC]
I used to do a lot of pencil work in grade school when I thought I wanted to be a comic book artist, but I moved onto other creative outlets as I got older.. Comedy writing, music reviewing, TV/radio hosting, web design.. Robot-Frank.com was a major project for me for a few years. About a year and a half ago I started taking etch-a-sketch seriously, so that's been my focus ever since. I'm excited to be one of the only people doing it Thanks!

Yeah, i didnt know anyone did that seriously, its really cool. Right now I just do drawings and make videos for fun, but I'd like to get into something more in depth like architexture or Game Design (like characters) in the future. If you've got any great tips for drawing I'd be really glad to hear em. Lawls, I checked out some of the pictures at robot frank's website. Its really funny, good job. I'll kill them if them make me rake the leaves again

Oh dear god! I tried one of these in a toy store and had one of these a freebe keychain and I couldn't do anything half decent. You've got some really steady hands to make that.

Awesome, thank you! I love the etch-a-sketch keychains, they're so tiny and challenging! I like proving that you can still make good art on them

LunaticFlowerxX In reply to bryanetch [2011-08-23 23:24:27 +0000 UTC]
I didn't really doubt you could make amazing art out of them, to be honest you probably could make some really nice art out of anything but it just requires the skills.

I haven't had the delight of messing around with one of these yet, I don't know how I've avoided it my whole life! But I imagine they're ridiculously frustrating so well done!

bryanetch In reply to Joofl [2011-08-23 22:30:37 +0000 UTC]
Knowing the right ways to turn the knobs to make the line go diagonal and curves.. can be tricky. I've used it enough now that it's second nature and I don't have to think about it.. but I'd imagine most people give up long before getting to that point. Thanks so much!
