Description

Hey, all the cool kids have one, why not TW?

Meet Thunder Woman's "super mode", "Divine Overclocking" ("overclocking" being a computer term related to running a CPU beyond the manufacturer's set limits). The reason it is called that is because of how it functions: the main source of power for Thunder Woman's electrical and weather powers is the keraouni* within her divinely powerful Olympian body. However, due to the significantly reduced divine power of Thunder Woman on Earth thanks to the dimensional separation from Olympus, her access to the power of this object is limited relative to her Olympian body's divine strength (i.e., the closer Olympus draws to Earth, the stronger the supernatural connection, resulting in the form's supernatural strength increasing, allowing her to more safely access more power).

However, on very rare occasions, Samantha is capable of "breaking" these limits to push her Olympian form into a state that utilizes the full extent of this power and thus operate at a level well beyond her normal limits. When in "Divine Overclocking," all of Thunder Woman's powers and attributes are increased far beyond what she is normally capable of, and her physical form changes, causing her to become less a physical person and more a kind of semi-corporeal humanoid thunderstorm.

But with great power comes great complications:

1. After she is finished overclocking she will be forced back into her human self and temporarily unable to change back into Thunder Woman. The amount of time varies depending on how much she overclocked and for how long.

2. Her mental faculties while overclocking are significantly reduced, as is her capability to reason and be creative with her powers; in this state, she is raw, raging power, barely controllable.

3. The amount of time she can spend in this state depends on how far she exceeds her limits; the greater the power, the shorter amount of time she can spend in the state. While she can achieve a state that puts her well beyond any hero on Earth (or even in the entire Milky Way Galaxy), she could only do it for a second or two, and doing so would render Samantha unable to change back into Thunder Woman for a long period of time. If she were to somehow prevent the change back into her human form, the overclocking would utterly destroy Thunder Woman and release enough energy to devastate the solar system.

So uh, yeah, it's mighty handy when she's really up against it, but if she gets too lost in the sauce things break.

Right now I only have two story instances of her going into this mode planned, with a possible third one where it's more about her exploring it a bit and "edging" into her limits. There will undoubtedly be others, but right now that's the vision. Definitely don't want this to become a regular possibility; this is something of a last resort, an indication that things have become absolutely dire and Samantha is at the last nanometer of her rope and ready to smite a motherfucker with unlimited prejudice.

This ties a bit into some other stuff that goes into the nature of her powers and transformation, which you can see here:

*The Keraouni are the more common, generic versions of Zeus's Keraounos; if the Keraounos is The Thunderbolt (definite article, proper noun, upper case, singular), then the Keraouni are just thunderbolts (no definite article, regular noun, lower case, plural).

The design for TW's "Divine Overclocking" mode come courtesy of the artistic talents of pyrasterran , with input from myself as we tried to figure out how to visualize the concept of TW turning into a humanoid thunderstorm. I think we got it.

Anyway, that's all for now! Gonna take a break from TW and move onto some ExMythos stuff, but don't worry, there'll be more TW goodness soon.
