Description
For the longest time, Keri never thought this day would come. She wasn't even able to get the saddle near the dark stallion for a few weeks. He would spook at the sight of it and take off down the field, refusing to let the brunette woman get near him for the rest of the day. And once she was able to get Sparta used to the presence of the saddle, he simply would not allow it upon his back. The minute he felt the weight of it he'd lash out at Keri then buck the saddle off. She nearly missed being kicked in the face once, and had been bitten by Sparta multiple times as he unleashed his fury upon her. Even when he did allow it on his back, the minute she lunged him he'd throw a hissy fit. One day he simply laid down, deciding he would not go any further with the tack.
It didn't work in her favor either that she was hardly able to be out at the farm anymore to work with him. She was always at the hospital with Tide. It was a constant rollercoaster with her brother; some days it seemed like he was finally getting better (even though he still hadn't spoken a word to her), and then the next day things would take a turn for the worst and it was like he was dying again. Keri wasn't quite sure what to do with herself at this point.

With the aid of Brittany, Sparta finally submitted to his fate - that the damn saddle would be on his back. Keri got creative, tying various things to the stirrups to apply pressure on each sides and walking him around before practicing getting up into the saddle. He pinned his ears each time she pretended to get up onto his back, but he didn't protest. Feeling especially brave that day, Keri laid across the saddle. The stallion pinned his ears and stomped his hoof. He had allowed her to put the weird thing on his back, now she wanted to be up there too? Crazy woman!
After a few minutes, Keri smiled for the first time in a few weeks, getting off his back and praising him. She left on a good note, deciding that tomorrow she would finally sit on the especially moody and hot-headed horse.

And she did just that.

"Oh, my god. ZACH IT'S HAPPENING." Keri could hardly contain herself that morning. She wanted to squeal with joy, but held herself back in fear she would spook the horse.
"Honestly, Keri, I never thought you'd ever be able to work with that horse, let alone sit on it." The man admitted.
She looked at him, tilting her head. "Really?"
"I was so close to selling that horse off. He was too dangerous, he's still kind of dangerous towards other handlers. But he allows you to get close to him. It baffles me." Zach leaned against the fence.
"You make it sound like I'm a horse whisperer."
"Well whatever you're whispering to him, he listens. Not very willingly, and not without a fight, but he listens."
"Yeah he reminds me of someone else I know." Keri's shoulders sunk visibly.
Zach remained quiet for a moment, not sure if he should say anything else. ".. Tide?"
"Yes. Except the only difference is Sparta actually responds to me."
"Keri."
"I'm sorry." she sighed.
"You sound angry at him. It's not his fault."
"I know.. Can we just.. not do this today? I don't want to kill this happy mood while I have it." She spoke, shifting a little when Sparta cocked one of his hooves in a relaxed manor.
"Alright. Well, don't go falling off and hurting yourself now! " Zach waved goodbye before turning to leave.
"You're one to talk!" She sneered as he left, laughing at her own comment.
