Okay, I will admit that this isn't ALWAYS the reason why MMD will crash on me, but a good 98% of the time I go back and look and realise I have joints that aren't attached properly.If the problem persists and you are absolutely sure the joints are not the reason: Check out this tutorial on the error finder bufffycat.deviantart.com/art/P… . Sometimes there are other things very wrong with a model, and this will show you where to look for them. I think it can be very difficult to understand at first, and may take some trial and error to understand what each thing means.
And there is one of the first versions of my Cardverse edit. Last edited 22/05/13....

what if your model doesn't even have joints or physics

There's a link in the description to a tutorial on how to use the error finder. That's your best bet if there are no joints in your model.
