This would connect to another memory, then another… and so on until she can’t focus on anything going on around her. Mneme is terrified of this happening. As a result, she tends to keep to herself. She will talk to others if they approach, but prefers being alone and watching the world go by.

[Let Me Tell You a Story...]

It begins as many do in the city of Massilia – stronghold of Bounty Hunters and humans alike: two cats, breeders by trade, brought together in the hopes of bringing a future Colosseum champion into the world. Three cubs were born from this union.

And this story centers on the oldest…

[A Diamond in the Rough]

She was the only girl of the three, and from the beginning, quiet in nature. While her brothers would wrestle and chase each other around the barn that served as their home, she would sit some distance away, her eyes closed. It was not long before her human owners noticed that there was something unusual about the young cub. She recognized obstacles quickly, always seemed to know at what time of day they would arrive, could easily do as commanded even when days had passed since learning something…

In the end, the humans came to a conclusion.

The cub had a perfect memory.

Seeing an opportunity for profit, they quickly spread the word in Massilia. A buyer stepped forward almost immediately.

The cub was sold to a new owner. Her memory would serve as an asset to her new family: the Bounty Hunters of Massilia.

[A New Life -- The Meowsketeers]

Upon arriving at her new home, the young mountain lion was given a name to reflect her skill: Mneme, after the Greek muse of memory. Taken under the wing of a veteran Hunter, Rubyna, she began her training as a Tribune.

To say that she felt out of place would be an understatement. In a city of constantly changing faces, Mneme struggled with newfound anxiety. But fate was not so cruel as to abandon her.

First she met a young jaguar called Taikada; they quite literally ran into each other one day. He had been a “lucky” victim of a mysterious killer known as the Slasher, but this fact was unknown to Mneme at the time. Despite their mutual nervousness, the two became fast friends.

Then she met a sleepy young cheetah -- Bensen. His quiet nature was comforting to her. Through him, she learned more about the city’s docks and streets. This piqued her curiosity about her new home.

Soon after, she learned that her two new friends also knew each other. From that point on they were nearly inseparable.

The adventures of the Three Meowsketeers began.

With Benny and Tai, the world opened up for the young mountain lion. Her cubhood days were spent getting into all sorts of mischief -- exploring new locations, hunting for treasure, and generally giving their respective adoptive parents reasons to worry.

It was during this time that Mneme formed an attachment to Tai in particular. At first, she admired his positive attitude, and his instinct to protect both her and Benny despite his handicap. But as their adventures continued, she began to see different sides of him. Just as she was dealing with the curse and blessing of her memory, Tai was fighting his own demons. Unbeknownst to the Meowsketeers, the young jaguar had witnessed the murder of his mother. And due to this, he was afraid to lose someone important to him again.
Mneme grew to respect him on a personal level. The shy and nervous friend she’d known since her arrival in Massilia became the one trying the hardest to improve himself. Trying his best to make something of himself.

[Everyone Has To Grow Up Sometime]

Then came the tournament.

A tournament to test the strength of the city’s Hunters. In the excitement leading up to the event, those training as apprentices in the program decided to spend their time in sparring matches. Mneme and Tai, being among the older tribunes, were drafted by their human masters to participate as well. The two were paired with each other. Mneme, caught up in the festival, was ready for their match to be a game between friends.

Taikada, however, was serious.

Mneme was bested quite easily. It was a moment of realization for her: Tai had changed. He was no longer a cub playing games, but a Hunter-in-training. And when Mneme searched for her reason to continue in the program… she found nothing. She had been left behind. Frustrated at her own inability to find an answer, she lashed out at an apologetic Tai.

Some time later, she vented her troubles to Bensen, and as always, he calmed her fears. But he could not come up with an answer for her. Mneme was left to reflect on her purpose.
