Bref, that's very good !

We need to combine wizard and engineer, like a wizaneer.

MBNaveed In reply to Built4ever [2012-11-22 07:27:11 +0000 UTC]

That would make a FANTASTIC futuristic story where magic and science have come together in a bond of brotherhood.

Somewhat like Warhammer 40K, only in that Science has turned into a religion! *ZOINKS!*

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Built4ever In reply to MBNaveed [2012-11-22 13:08:13 +0000 UTC]

Science IS a religion sometimes, when it gets distorted. I believe there exists lost scientific knowledge, some of which explains the ancient monuments on the planet, like the Teotihuacan site, Giza, South American stuff...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MBNaveed In reply to Built4ever [2012-11-22 14:13:06 +0000 UTC]

Absolutely no doubts there. We're like babies re-learning much of what was already known but is forgotten.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Built4ever In reply to MBNaveed [2012-11-23 02:25:37 +0000 UTC]

Yes, the REALLY old religions and texts may hint at such knowledge...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MBNaveed In reply to Built4ever [2012-11-23 07:50:16 +0000 UTC]

And more than that they hint at a common ancestor to most of the world's religions. Case in point, the first man in Babylonian myth was known as ADAMU. Coincidence? I think not! And one of the stories from those myths mentions a devastating flood in the young ages of the world from which only a few escaped. Its all very interesting.

Built4ever In reply to MBNaveed [2012-11-23 12:08:03 +0000 UTC]

I agree, the flood event is recorded all over the world in histories. I think some bad stuff happened on this planet about 5000 yrs ago. One of these days I'm gonna get me down to the Teotihuacan site. Giant mica sheets buried in the pyramids there, supposedly from Brazil, one foot thick! Why? How transported? Giant resonator? Passer or creator of AC current? Something like that. There not for human sacrifices!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MBNaveed In reply to Built4ever [2012-11-23 12:11:16 +0000 UTC]

I agree. I mean think about it, even today abandoned factories in say Chernobyl look NOTHING like they would with all their equipment intact and the lights on and the people moving about. Who's to say these sites haven't been ripped of their original contents and are not just merely vessels. And yes they were used and inhabited by humans but at what point in time? It might have been centuries later. Just read a few H.P Lovecraft books. They've got my imagination spinning into wildly surreal tangents and I'm loving it!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Built4ever In reply to MBNaveed [2012-11-23 15:26:04 +0000 UTC]

That's exactly right, the unmovable foundations are still there but the equipment is long gone, melted into swords and plows I suppose. Try "Fingerprints of the Gods", "The Giza Power Plant," or anything by Velikovsky too... When people outside the field look at archeological sites they come up with vastly different conclusions...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

MBNaveed In reply to Built4ever [2012-11-23 17:03:05 +0000 UTC]

I've read Chariots and a couple of other books about the superior astronomical knowledge that the Egyptians had and how the layout of all the pyramids is a map of the stars that corresponds directly to the night sky as it was all that time ago. That's the best thing about history, certain parts are definitely set in stone, yet there is SO MUCH more that is open to conjecture.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Built4ever In reply to MBNaveed [2012-11-23 23:32:16 +0000 UTC]

That may be incorrect, the part about the alignment. That's just my opinion. But I DO think there is something technically advanced about Giza. The big pyramid was certainly NOT a grave for kings, no way...

readyplayerzero In reply to ??? [2012-11-21 16:03:54 +0000 UTC]

How on earth do you keep it so clear? Anytime I try to use pencil to draw details, I end up smearing it like crazy, even if I'm resting my hand over a sheet of paper to block off the sketch... how large of paper do you use for these?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Built4ever In reply to readyplayerzero [2012-11-21 17:52:07 +0000 UTC]

Small, 8 and half by 11, start with 4H pencil , move to 2H, end with H and HB, NEVER go past to 2B and beyond because the pencils are too soft, unless you have large areas of black. I also use from time to time a very fine black ink pen to do black and pick out details. Sharp pencils make for sharp details, but it's hard to keep a 2B or beyond sharp. When done, darken with the computer by tweaking, playing with contrast, etc to get it a bit more dramatic. I DO mess stuff up, believe me. I clean up the background with GIMP software, just paint in white over spots and smudges. Also, rest your hand on a sheet of card stock over the drawing to protect it once you are deeper into it.

readyplayerzero In reply to Built4ever [2012-11-23 02:40:42 +0000 UTC]

Card stock! That would make more sense than paper, more solid. Very detailed response, haha - thank you!

Absolutely wonderful progression! This is perfect evidence that what you choose "ignore" or gloss over can be just as important as what you choose to feature.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Built4ever In reply to silvertales [2012-11-21 12:20:58 +0000 UTC]

Absolutely! There are times when going past a certain point might make it too busy and detailed. I reach that point quite a lot and wonder when to stop. You are done when it "says what it needs to say, and no more." Filling in an entire sheet of paper is a neurotic impulse that ruins a lot of art works on Deviant, despite a high skill level. Comic book art is VERY guilty of that, technically excellent but far too busy, no restraint.

This is so incredible helpful! Of course, this may end up looking easier than it actually is, but I'll try out this method nonetheless.

Built4ever In reply to CanisLupusDingo [2012-11-21 12:17:33 +0000 UTC]

Getting a fluid line at the beginning, creating depth by using a road or bridge leading to the castle and far off mountains, those are all starting points.
