Good design exercise. "Re-do everything." Where do we start?

I love all your work but as a 3D fan I had to choose this one to favorite. Had to have at least one link to re-find your gallery. It's so nice to see your designs find their way to the 3D community.

Yeah thanks, the two sisters that commissioned the Clove town from me executed the model from my drawings. The biggest problem we had, besides complexity, was the "camera angle" which was standard for Second Life, which was too high up and created a need for, like, 20' ceilings for the shops, which basically ruined the architecture. The town plan went pretty deep anyways, and I intend to develop it further as an actual pedestrian only town center. It might be part of the Medit. "world" that includes the Montevino sketch in my gallery. That group of buildings was also "modeled" as a cake by a young French gal!!

Ooops! Sorry for the mixup! But you will be able to see the difference when she starts getting her hands on it! She simply does magic!!! Probably one of the best texturers out there I'm glad you like it so far! This is a very early phase since we have to UV(omg nightmare!) before attempting to add in more details to the model. Also did a scale test [link] to see how it looks in the game. I only managed to UV that one building so far but will probably get my sister to help out to quicken the process!

I put some comments there. Yes, I can't wait to see texture and color. We may need to sort out the narrowness of the buildings though, and do more wider storefronts. Check my comments. I'm trying to understand what the "needs" are with second life, the "mechanics" of it.

I also did a poll with my friends on secondlife they prefer the orignial scale! The narrowness didnt bother anyone either!!

You mean the true-to-life one? Good that you ask other people's opinions. I certainly do.

suetabulous In reply to Built4ever [2012-12-04 13:31:24 +0000 UTC]

I think my sister will be tweaking the narrowness of the storefronts, it should be fine after she does it. It'll be better to stay with similar sketches and narrowness of the builds so when she tweaks, its the same tweak for all the rest of the models if that makes any sense? But I hope the model is looking alright so far! It's still phase 1, long way to go... but we'll get there.

Thanks for showing this model! We're glad it's meeting your expectations, just to correct the credits though, I haven't touched the model one bit haha, It's currently all done by I'm normally the ones who does the image side of things!

If you're interested in some good Secondlife lands, I have a few recommendations for you. Most folks in Secondlife build furnitures or buildings for others to customize and make an entire land on their own. However, there are those who have teamed up and made a gorgeous land. These 2 lands are my ultimate favorites (of course you'd need to create an account and download the viewer first haha):

Tableau ; some of the most artistic and creative content creators, a lot of their work and textures are done using their own illustrations

Mayfair ; hosting 2 major content creator brands, Celoe/Lelutka and Mon Tissu. They're really pros with 3d programs and know how to bring it into second life well.

Neva Crystall ; And this final one isn't really a place, more a photographer who does mainly photography of furnitures and buildings within Secondlife. She's really good at bringing out the beauty of the 3d models within our world.

There are a great deal more of talented content creators just as there are a few less outstanding places. I compare Secondlife with the world wide web in a 3d virtual sense -- so you have to know where to look in order to find the gems

It has to be exciting seeing something you design go from a sketch, to a 3 dimensional form.
Just like when I see a set of drawings turn into a structure.

When you mentioned this was all being built for SL... I had assumed it was all being made with prims... To see that they're making it outside then importing it via mesh means that it can retain the details that your stunning drawings depict. They have my approval. :3

Im watching this intently, when it is nearer completion I think I'll have to drop in provided they dont close off access to outsiders. It looks impressive at its current state, your diagrams mean than when it's finished, it's going to be breathtaking - something rare in SL these days.

What IS good in SL? Could you point me to something well done?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RavenInTheSnow In reply to Built4ever [2012-12-03 02:06:15 +0000 UTC]

I haven't been on in a couple months since I moved off to start my game design project. The problem is I lost all of my landmarks when I moved over from one SL client to another or there is one town that actually is pretty well designed. I think it has the same purpose as what I guess the one you've designed is. A small high quality aesthetic village with many little shops. I'm sorry I can't remember what it was called...
