It can be a challenging medium. Honestly, these days, considering the power of computer software, I would almost encourage young people to just avoid it. However, GOOD DRAWING should always be done with a pencil! My watercolor technique is dense color in small dabs on toned paper, more like gouache, and the brilliant color is informed by american and french impressionism. I don't do broad washes of thin color, as most watercolorists do.
