Description
My first IR pic! It's a little noisy, I guess I should have had a longer exposure time. Let me just say that this really was my first venture into manual mode, and also, that it was blowing like hell (my fingers instantly froze, I had to use mitts after that).
Any criticism is much appreciated!
EDIT: I tried reducing the noise in photoshop, then I used the sharpening action recently in the "news" section of deviantart.

This is really great, but how exactly do you do an IR shot? Just wondering....thanks.

you need a special filter for your camera, i'm using Hoya R72. you need to set the focus before you take the shot, because once you have the filter on you can't focus. manual mode helps.

The title fits this perfectly, it's chilling, great sky!!!
I thought it was manipulated or something, but skies never cease to amaze...

This is very nice... I like the contrast between the dark sky and the almost sepia-tone trees. Well executed, and I think you portrayed the feeling of death nicely.
The clouds are a tad blurry, and they're right between giving me a sense of movement and a sense of lower quality which I know is not the case, as the trees are magnificently detailed. Maybe it's the focus? Or maybe it's just that the clouds were naturally blurry that day? Either way, a masterfully done photograph

u know, if i recall correctly it was really windy, very cold and very windy! that probably caused some motion blurring in the trees. thanks for such a detailed and interesting comment, i really appreciate ones like these!

I take much pleasure in writing them -- it makes me think, and I like thinking Odd, huh?
The trees, actually, don't seem blurry at all -- it's the clouds that do.

could be the IR filter, but i do think the wind has something to do with it.

Possibly both
I honestly don't know all that much about photography, so forgive my n00bness in asking "What's an IR filter"?

I like what you did with the IR filter. looks like a shot from a dream. I can see what led you to that title.. the coldness you felt and the way this image looks. the tones and composition here are very good, and I like them.
very good work.

IR = infrared?
This is really eerie, but I was drawn to it because of the strange colors and spooky atmosphere. I think it came out really well for a first try.

Very nice scene even with the sensor dust bunnies. You should really clone those out as they are pretty obvious and distract from the whole. Keep up the good work!
Cheers,

I think it was just a little dust on the lens, i checked the sensor and it was fine - also there's nothing in the other photos (except for one on another day). Stuff seems to get on there pretty fast when you're doing a lot of shooting.
