Description 9 - 11 - 04

My tribute to 9-11-01. We must always remember the courage and pride of everybody who was involved in the rescue efforts and the thousands who died. This is for all those affected directly and indirectly by the attacks.

Lest we forget.

Update:

Despite what many people might think about this photograph, it is not staged. Their positions are entirely spontaneous.

Thanks to for selecting the image and for recommending it.
Thank you to everyone who took the time to leave their thoughts.

Damn Piotr, another DD?

I loved this shot before, and I loved it still (despite the letters from the window you took it through)

overall i think the photo is good and well photograhped but for me i doesnt do anything if you didnt write about the attack and this being ground zero i would have no idea and it would have no impact on me. Its a bit to random to REALLY make a spectacular statement towards terrorisme and so forth.
My condolences and thoughts are with the victims and those affected by these attacks and today something quite scary happened. Im from denmark and nothing really big goes on here. And we have received terror treats over the internet dues to our politics and actions regarding iraq. Today at this big shopping center where me and my mom where in the car basement just few meters away from our car the alarm went on and people were told to find the nearest emergency excit cause there was a fire and gd! I got kinda scared inside i have no idea yet what really happened but these attacks does make you think and not only do they have impact on the citizens of the contries but on people all over the world. Thank you for dedicating this piece.
gosh, long comment. sorry

bule In reply to agena [2005-07-08 19:46:17 +0000 UTC]

The piece has less to do with the actual attacks and more about keeping them in our memory. The ladies were at the site remembering what happened. It's not a statement towards terrorism.

Terrorism exists everyday. It's not just the result of bombings and extremists. Look on your nightly news. Armed robbery, gunfights. That's all terrorism.

agena In reply to bule [2005-07-08 21:07:04 +0000 UTC]

well i think of it as a statement towards/against terrorism. I mean, part of that remembering is anger about what happened and its sorrow and sadness and that is negative things that terrorism has created and therefore people seem to transfer the emotion to that. But that is a difference in opinion. I hope you werent mad about the critic is just that the picture is not that strong that it brings all that in the description to mind. The message could have been more obvious. I think we define terrorisme differently.
n'ways. The picture is a good piece of art but it not stating the obvious to me.

Everyone's entitled to their own opinion.

What do you define terrorism as?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

agena In reply to bule [2005-07-09 17:40:00 +0000 UTC]

uh well there for trying to avoid explanation lol. Well before the twin tower thing i didnt know nor hear much about terrorisme. I think of terrorisme as sumthing that is meant as a punish to someone due to their oppionens and so on but the victims are not the responsible ones. If you get what i mean. Every day terrorisme as you define it is more to me as "common" crime. I think of terrorisme as something political.

Main Entry: terΒ·rorΒ·ism
Pronunciation: 'ter-&r-"i-z&m
Function: noun
1 : the unlawful use or threat of violence esp. against the state or the public as a politically motivated means of attack or coercion
2 : violent and intimidating gang activity β€”terΒ·rorΒ·ist /-ist/ adj or noun β€”terΒ·rorΒ·isΒ·tic /"ter-&r-'is-tik/ adjective DICTIONARY.com

Well, yeah, Terrorism is mostly political. The only problem with 9/11 was that the reaction was as if it's never happened before. Terrorism has been around as long as greed and envy have been around.

Cheers.

When will it stop? first 9/11/01, NYC; then 4/11/04, Madrid; now 7/07/05 London.... these are inoccent people suffering.

Congrats on the DD...

true, Bali didn't come to mind when writing the comment, the point is there's been enough death already.

"Looking at what these two women see, a place of human disaster is also a place for a new beginning. In rememberance of what happened at that tragic day, as well as what happened yesterday in London"

I dont mean to be the only negative person commenting here but this could have been marked DD some other day, I find it somewhat offensive that the admins chose today as a day to mark it a Daily Deviation, thats almost like saying yeah London was bad but its not as important as 911.

Sorry Bule for leaving a negative comment, the photo is a fantastic shot. I just find this highly inapropriate to be put in the spotlight at this moment.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

bule In reply to Foxxie-Angel [2005-07-08 19:41:57 +0000 UTC]

I didn't choose it as a DD. I submitted this photograph as my tribute to the Sept. 11 anniversary.
If you have anything to say about that, please talk to one of the admins.

I'm sorry I dont mean this as a personal attack on you. I know you did not choose this as a DD. I almost lost my cousin due to the London incidents, only by chance did he get of at the stop before he usually would on the underground.

I've lost friends in past attacks and live in a country where terrorism is imminent (3 targeting foreigners in the past 3 years). Terrorism exists everyday. It's a shame that innocent people are affected by it.

9/11 was red, black, fire so vivid, on the TV screen one night. This is Korea- i remember thinking, wtf? is this some universal joke?

so real it didn't seem real, and the colors impressed deeply. The intensity of the event, the fumes, the flames, the blue sky, the tiny...people... falling, on-screen, build the bulk of my memories concerning the tragedy.

seeing this, thus, in black-and-white, calm and black and stark and soft and gray, gives shivers but somehow... feels 'right', depicts a sort of 'rest', for my mind at least, of the horrors of the day, and of the souls that perished.
Not that they'll ever be erased. just that they are no longer in pain. in the images in my heart.

beautiful job. thank you for your gift!

I'm sorry, but you can't compare 9.11 to the Tsunami disaster. It's not even close.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ingrid-fabiola In reply to bule [2005-07-10 11:48:07 +0000 UTC]

yes, I can. It was disasters the whole world was involved in. Everyone was affected. In that way

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

bule In reply to ingrid-fabiola [2005-07-10 12:00:43 +0000 UTC]

9.11 was caused by humans.
The tsunami wasn't.

The tsunami also affected millions of people.

ingrid-fabiola In reply to bule [2005-07-10 12:22:39 +0000 UTC]

Depends the way you see it. Not how it was caused. I meant that they effected many people. Not how it was caused. Thats how i compared it ^^

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

bule In reply to ingrid-fabiola [2005-07-10 14:41:12 +0000 UTC]

Even in the way it affected people. The tsunami killed 280,000, thousands are still missing and millions were left homeless.

ingrid-fabiola In reply to bule [2005-07-10 14:50:53 +0000 UTC]

ah, if you dont think about the effects, I meant how they AFFECTED people. not how many people who died, or how it got caused, but how the disasters (in lack of other words) affected people all over the world....i dont think you get my point of view, i give up

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

bule In reply to ingrid-fabiola [2005-07-11 04:01:56 +0000 UTC]

I get your point of view, mate.
They're totally different events. If you saw what I saw when I visited, you'd understand who I deem it incomparable.
It's like comparing a Mercedes to a Toyota. They're both cars, but totally different.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

ingrid-fabiola In reply to bule [2005-07-11 07:34:43 +0000 UTC]

Wah, I see you arent interested to read. How they EFFETCTED the world. Emotionaly. Not what you saw. Or what I heard. How it effected the world so strong.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

bule In reply to ingrid-fabiola [2005-07-11 17:07:03 +0000 UTC]

Even emotionaly. The sheer difference in size of both. I'm sure people in Sri Lanka weren't affected as much by the WTC bombing as the Tsunami disaster.

Just my opinion.
