For carrying all kinds of stuff, they're surprisingly useless afterwards.Lots of thanks to the guys over at Remod ( [link] ) for improving the rough draft of this strip with ideas and suggestions.

Yar, I used to wonder why trainers didn't just carry all their crap in a pokeball, I mean, you can fit a freaking Wailord in there, there's no reason you couldn't fit your backpack and a million full restores in just one.
Hell, there's no reason you couldn't fit a HOUSE in there! I could carry around a brothel in my pocket! I mean, a club-house...of innocent activities, yeah.

They were called capsule monsters oringally... thats why the Gen 1 pokeballs separate completely when they open up to capture something (no hinge)

I sorta always wondered why pokΓ©balls could carry random stuff inside when you find them but not when you buy them (aren't they supposed to carry JUST pokΓ©mon?). I mean, what's so wrong about... boxes or bags anyway? Or chests? Chests are sweet.

The absence of chests is probably to differentiate themselves from other series or rpg games in general. But some variety wouldn't had been so bad.

Perhaps the item-looks-like-a-pokeball is actually a very old, outdated Pokeball that was used to store items such as working Pokeballs, potions, and other such things in the past, and nobody just haven't ever picked them up, being afraid it'd be a Voltorb.

Or maybe they're just small treasure chests that look like PokeBalls. Makes much more sense, and that's how they were depicted in Colosseum and Gale of Darkness. And it'd explain why they're just lying around: People hid them and forgot about them!
